Autofire Will Likely Be Banned

greenspun.com : LUSENET : MAME Action Replay : One Thread

I am surprised and impressed by the number of people voting for the banning of autofire, it's something that belongs in place in one form or another.

I just wanted to remind everyone that when we ban only one form of "advantage", we are "allowing" other forms of "advantages" by not banning them. We can't ban slowdowns or pausing from regular marp recordings because there is no hard evidence against them, so they will still continue to show up.

In my opinion we are punishing the shop lifters, and letting the murders go free. Hopefully most people will be using tgmame in the future.

If we could enforce the other "advantages" you mention, we certainly would. However, it's currently not possible with any version except to some extent m35tg3. When MAME 0.36 goes final and shortly thereafter tg4 comes out, games from m36 would be included [m36tg4?] as well as tighter standards to ensure TG compliance. Also, at that time we'd probably want to decide if we should have a separate LB (or dare I say replace it!!) that upholds these higher standards...

I don't see this as letting murderers go free, I see this as slowly cracking down on them. We're essentially "cleaning up" some parts of MARP that were neglected due to poor communication and indecision. If nothing, it's at least a step in the right direction. The rest will come with time.
