Watch your speedometer

greenspun.com : LUSENET : I-695 Thirty Dollar License Tab Initiative : One Thread

I got an E mail from a co-worker that got his first ticket in 35 years. Yes he was speeding about 5 or 10 miles over the 35 MPH limit. It used to be that the officer would usually cut some slack and issue a warning. But thanks to I-695 they have to make up the revenue somewhere. Minimum speeding ticket is $100. Think of it from the cops' point of view. The job he saves may be his own. So as a Heads Up, watch your speed. The 5 or 10 miles over the speed limit may cost you. A friendly reminder..........

What revenue loss from 695? Government projected surplusses goin' up. There's no revenue loss.

Paul:

Local governments (that employ the police) have lost revenue. Your statement is false. Many were cut by over 10% in 2000, relative to 1999. Some over 25%. The legislature has not done anything yet to replce that lost revenue. As for the police enforcing the speed limits, I appreciate it.

I thought that NO cuts in dough from the state level would occure until about July; if that's the case, any speculation is premature. Just my $0.02.
