I wonder when folks are going stop believing these egomaniac's press releases (if ever). Much of what the three front-running clowns say is debatable.

-- elskon (elskon@bigfoot.com), January 27, 2000.

...convince me otherwise, or he gets my vote! He's the first presidential candidate in my life time that I would go to war for!!! The man is impressive, down to earth, and just seemd at least to me, to be the most "normal" person I will ever have a chance to vote for.

-- Vern (bacon17@ibm.net), January 27, 2000.

Is he the one that swares he has photos of space worms he saw flying by the rocket window up in outerspace? hehe

republocrats - all the SAME.

-- anybody (vote@for.me), January 27, 2000.

--on the republican side, keyes is much more impressive, my opinion. he gets zip coverage, and if he did, no way would either NWO goon bush jr or confused mccain be the front runners. got nothing personal against mccain, just that keyes is light years ahead intellectually and on freedom issues. and bored or bradley--- sheeesh----

-with all that said, "prediciting" elections is usually fairly easy, if no weird stuff happens like a last minute withdrawal from the race, etc. Here's mine, it'll be bored against bushed, bush will get a slight nod in, just barely. Third and fourth parties will have their best showings ever, and take equally from both major parties.

At one time last year-right up to the wire- I had thought we'd have a bad infrastructure collapse, well, it looks like a long haul medium scenario instead, so we'll have elections. That "glitch graph" shows a nice slow rise in glitches, my ballbark projections look like around mid march is going to be REAL interesting. I AM wondering when the next b.s. war will be, though, too......this oil and fuel stuff is weird, methinks a littler planetary economic alignment is coming soon.

NOT- I saw a special on Public Tele that explained how he married a Vietnamese lady he met while at dinner in Saigon (Ho Ho City)

We really need a president who is married to a Vietnamese Communist!! Might beat Billy at doing us in.

-- Tim (Timgv@juno.com), January 27, 2000.

It's gonna be Gore vs Bush. If Bush wins I will always be afraid that there is a shadow government making all the decisions with Bush as a puppet. If Gore wins my biggest fear will be that there is NO shadow government making all the decisions.

If McCain would win, then his wife could get all her prescription drugs delivered to the White House, no questions asked, right? Wonder what drove her to the drugs in the first place, right?

-- Richard (Astral-Acres@webtv.net), January 27, 2000.

McCain, War Hero, God knows we need one in the headlines! But some are of the opinion, he has a hair-trigger temper (given his past life, I would too), but maybe not the best choice, for a powerful position.

-- Choices (whichone@pres.com), January 27, 2000.

Have any of you gentle persons out there realized that if the bushleaguer and the bore run against each other, that we'll have a new (hereditary) royal personage in the WH? Third generation royalty on both sides, isn't it?

-- bz (beezee@statesville.net), January 27, 2000.

McCain was a prisoner of war in Vietnam for 7 years. His father was military VIP. You don't think they fooled with his mind over there? Manchurian Candidate!

WAR HERO?

He had the misfortune to get his ass shot down and he's called a hero 'cause he survived his prison camp stay. Excuse me, that's passively surviving his circumstances.

I don't recall every reading anything that indicated McCain was actively resisting his captors. That is something the US Military Code of Conduct calls upon every member of the US Armed Forces to do if captured.

Instead, all I've ever read is commentary from other POWs which hints that McCain is not viewed in great favor by many other former POWs. They allude that something occurred where he possibly compromised himself in his behavior with his captors.

Maybe it was signing a letter that said "I admit I'm a war criminal against the North Vietnamese people." when other POWs died rather than sign such documents. I think Jane Fonda waved around a copy of that "confession".

If he had evaded capture after being shot down and spent a week or a month alone on foot getting back to freindly territiory, that would be heroic. A couple of guys did that, they're heroes. A few more tried and were successful for a few days. Those were heroic efforts that ultimately failed. But all the guys that tried are heroes.

If he had lead an escape from his prison camp, that would be heroic. Those that tried all died trying. The died heroic deaths.

If he had resisted coersion to sign the propaganda letter, possibly unto death or in the face of greater punishment, that would be heroic. Captain Lance Sijan comes to mind when POWs who resisted to their deaths rather than compromise are mentioned.

Being viewed with "less than glowing respect" by his fellow POWs makes me think his actions in those POW camps were certainly less than heroic.

And I don't think we need another President who will compromise his values during the crunch. Seven years of one leader who will compromise what few values he has is enough.

But McCain sure has got a lot of media fans because of his willingness to compromise. Personally, I'd take Bush the Air National Guard pilot or Forbes the Ft Dix cook any day.

John McCain ought to take his "war hero record" and move to the Deomcratic party and run on his record of "Willingness to Compromise". That would make the liberals happier than they might be with Al Gore and his "I didn't have a bodyguard" war record.

Sorry, but as a real Viet Vet with the usual assortment of John Wayne buttons and good-doobie ribbons (I can say that, and if you are a Vet you can say that, but if you are not a combat vet, you really shouldn't call them that ) Senator McCain does not impress me in the least, and he will not get my support nor my vote. I personally know several men who were in the camps with him and they would not vote for him, and that is good enough for me.

You are free to do as you wish, of course, but the field is pretty damned thin. Take all of those bastards to make one ball, don't know what you would do if you wanted a pair. Except for Keyes, of course.

That man has a pair, and an extra one, but he has no chance of winning. That is just a shame. He is the only one of the entire crew that stands up for what this country was founded on, and for. Of course, you stand a better chance betting on a celluloid dog chasing a cast-iron cat through hell. And you'll get better odds, as well.

My vote goes to Keyes, at least I can look myself in the mirror when I shave.

Harvey

-- Harvey Ballwhanger (harvey@whang.com), January 27, 2000.

Alan Keyes is the closest thing you will see to a firebrand, eloquent Patrick Henry in your lifetime. Alan Keyes gets my vote. He's the only bonifide American in the pack. It doesn't hurt also that he's got a proper respect for God Almighty. ...sdb

-- S. David Bays (SDBAYS@prodigy.net), January 27, 2000.

I've never seen Keyes in need of a 'lifeline'. True Presidential material. I fear that most voters will merely scan his cover and never read the book within. Once again, the biggest looser will be our country.

-- Will continue (farming@home.com), January 27, 2000.

WW and Harvey,

You guys are a riot. So having both arms and a leg broken on ejection is not enough reason for not evading capture? He wasn't a hero because he didn't lead an escape? How many of your buddies broke out of NVA prison camps? How many of them endured the years of torture McCain endured BECAUSE they were the son of an admiral? Have either of you had to endure imprisonment and torture at the hands of the enemy? Were all those captured pilots we saw beaten on TV during the Gulf War aiding the enemy? Wake up and join the 20th Century.

McCain has never claimed to be a hero. That is media hype. He has admitted to being ashamed of signing his confession after severe torture. He has called himself weak for doing it. And what good does it do to die from torture rather than sign a bogus confession? I don't know if you're aware of it, but the code of conduct was revised about ten years ago so that statements made under the duress of torture are no longer viewed as giving aid and comfort to the enemy.

The man went and served, and paid a heavy price. He did a hell of a lot more than most. Maybe he's not a hero, but he doesn't deserve the bullshit you guys are putting out.

Go ahead and vote for Keyes; maybe if enough of you dopes do that, we'll get really fucked and another Democrat will get elected.

-- (cavscout@fix.net), January 27, 2000.

I'm with you--S. David Bays. Keys is the best man for the job. I believe however that TPTB already know who will be the next president and it will be Bush Jr. Do we really even have any say? Does our vote really make a difference? I don't think so. It is a sad, sad world we live in and I am really fed up with all the cover up and government control.

Thank you. I feel much better after venting!

-- (I Believe (Repent@time is now.com)), January 27, 2000.

Keyes dosen't stand a chance. He has too much common sense. But he would certainly get my vote.

-- citizen (lost@sea.com), January 27, 2000.

Maybe I missed something. Keyes IS the only Republican running. If we don't elect Keyes we will have elected one of the 'others'.

-- Will continue (farming@home.com), January 27, 2000.

Anybody.....DITTO!

-- Kyle (fordtbonly@aol.com), January 27, 2000.

Alan Keyes is a very impressive intellect and speaker, but he's a man just waiting to play the race card. He's always talking the subject. I get tired of it. We don't need a conservative Jesse Jackson as this nations leader. This country would be 100% polarized in just 2 years into his Presidency.

-- Liberal Hater (liberty@bell.com), January 27, 2000.

Keyes = Jackson?????? You wouldn't by chance be a white person playing the race card, would you?

-- Will continue (farming@home.com), January 27, 2000.

Hey guys,

Did you all ever think that maybe, just maybe, if we would all vote for Keyes instead of saying that, "he can't win so I'm not going to vote for him", he just might win. If he doesn't win, I sincerely hope every single person that I've heard make that statement remembers that it is their fault he didn't win because they didn't have the never to vote their choice instead of the media's choice.

I can't believe people want one person to win but are so scared that they may vote for the "loser" that they would betray themselves to that extent. Just goes to show that some of us never grew up, we seem to still require a shepherd so we can be kept as part of the herd!

Sorry if this sound like I'm ranting, but if you look at the threads from today, you'll see what I mean. I don't understand the theory of he can't win so I'll not vote for him, I'll vote for the winner.

According to more than one source McCain was known in VietNam as "Songbird McCain" due to the fact that during his time as a POW he agreed to participate in anti-U.S. broadcasts made by his captives. Don't know whether it was coerced or voluntary.....

-- saveamerica (jb40@hotmail.com), January 27, 2000.

Getting caught and surrendering to the enemy makes him a "hero"?? I like his ideas and his character, but don't go overboard on the "hero" crap. There are a lot more heros that never came back and never got to wear the medals either.

-- Hawk (flyin@high.again), January 28, 2000.

John McCain is just a NWO lackey. One of his best buds is Henry Kissinger also he is a member of the council on foreign relations, the one world gov.need to inslave the world in order to achieve goals club including U.S.A.)WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!!!!! and do your homework.

Cavscout,

I mentioned one POW, Lance Sijan, who died rather than sign a war crimes confession. He died because he refused medical treatment of his ejection injuries in exchange for his confession.

His ejection injuries were two broken legs and a broken arm and still he tried to escape while being transported to the Hanoi Hilton. He didn't get far, pulling hmself along the ground with his one good arm.

The NVA beat him for his escape attempt and worsened his injuries by making them compound fractures plus adding internal injuries. He hung on for almost a month after he was put into the Hilton, enduring beatings for his refusal to sign a confession. When he was concious he would talk of making escape plan with his cellmates.

For his talk he would be beaten even more. Lance was urged by more senior POWs to make a confession in order to obtain life-saving medical aid. He refused and ultimately died for lack of medical care.

He would rather die than compromise, even if such compromise would save his life. Hi did so because he knew that once the first compromise was made, others would follow.

Capt Lance Sijan, USAF, was a hero. He did not compromise his values, even in the face of the ultimate costs. In the same situation, John McCain did not stand on his values and compromised with the enemy Some say it went beyond compromise and was outright cooperation with the enemy.

Wildweasel

While I'll agree he may not be a hero- You must also agree he was in a prisoner of war camp not at a resort at Disneyworld. No matter how the Viet cong tried to make him feel more "at home" because he was an admirals son HE WAS STILL IN A PRISONER OF WAR CAMP.

He was not on a sightseeing on a siberean train-red-in-chief, he was not taking pictures for the stars and bars- al gore, he was not in the national guard-dan q., nor was he in a fraternity at yale or harvard-george w.

To me this alone makes him infinateley more qualified and yes I would say this if he were a Democrat but there doesn't seem to be many of them-Democrat POW's running for prez. that is--

-- Johnny (jljtm@bellsouth.net), January 28, 2000.

Just because he got shot down and endured captivity and torture does not make him a worthy candidate. As far as liberty, his voting record sucks just like 99% of the rest.

-- A (A@AisA.com), January 28, 2000.

Here's McCain's voting record on firearms issues:

105th Congress

106th Congress

Gunowners of America only gives McCain a "C" grade. I consider him to be a danger to my liberty, and no, I don't think he's much of a hero, either. Sijan was, Roy Benavides was, Larry Maysey and Charlie King were, but not McCain......
