Soliciting recommendations for new forums

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I started coming here in June 1999 and enjoyed it as a virtual community and as a source of y2k info, debates and rants. Now that y2k is past, I find that I'm not attracted by what this forum is becoming. But I have developed a forum habit and would like to find a place to go. Does anyone have some recommendations?

I know there are thousands of discussion groups/news groups out there; just wondering if you have any favorites. Now that y2k is gone (I hope), there is no unifying theme here, at least not for me. Maybe what I would like is a non-issue chat forum that covers many subjects but without a dominant motif. I am rambling. Any suggestions?

Sounds like you are already 'right where you should be'.(grin)

MSNBC has some good forums. Some are on specific topics and others more general. Some are extremely active and others are less so. Yahoo also has some good message boards but some are a bit chaotic at times. Fun to read though. Good luck.

LOL. Good answer Possible Impact.

TBY2K appears to be morphing into Y2K and supply chain related issues (like oil at the moment)... or not. "Hot" issues do change... as the world turns... daily.

Rather suspect the forum will morph again, into on-going discussions on Current & World Events, happening in one's backyard and beyond, both OT and On-topic. Or not.

Time will tell.

Lars,

I agree that this has been (and continues to be, to a lesser degree) an interesting place. Y2K was a unifying force in bringing together many people from different walks of life, backgrounds, etc.

I for one am not particularly disenchanted with this forum. I believe it is and will continue to be the first place you will hear breaking news about Y2K or other disruptions. I am personally taking a "wait and see" attitude, and not discounting the possibility of continued, possible serious Y2K disruptions througout the year and possibly beyond. Yes, we got past the rollover, but I'm not ready to concde that "it" is over yet. A short-term power outage would have been "fun," but in the long run, we are better off now than most of us would have dreamed six months ago.

If we dodged the bullet, Yeah!!! The sheeple will continue to follow the pack and not prepare. I, for one, will have no regrets for any preps I've made, if Y2K has ZERO impact. Hey, I've installed that solar energy system I've been talking about for years, I don't have to run to the grocery store every day, and I'm all set up for my next camping trip.

All this is off your topic, of course. But, I think we should all hang around here, at least checking in off and on during the year. If this forum takes twists and turns, let's let it evolve in the organic way that we have thusfar experienced.

Live long and prosper.

Lars,

For starters, check out "The Great Deception..." thread, over in New Answers, then get back to me...

(I know, I know, I've plugged this thread what seems like a dozen times already ... I can't help it --- I love the stuff...)

While I may be "dull minded" I feel this forum is the best place going for up-to-the-minute information on what is going on from a laymans point of view, not only in the USA, but throughout the world.

More news here than CNN. As long as this site is here, I am not going much further.

Lars, Evolution of a forum is natural as outlined in Dee's Theory of Forum Evolution.

This is the theory that the world is not constant or recently created nor perpetually cycling, but rather is steadily changing, and that forums are transformed in time.

As for the unifying theme...it's still there...it's simply evolved into a unified "underlying" theme. Please refer to "Dee's Unified Underlying Theme Theory".

True...y2k is a little like finding a Waldo these days...(darn lawyers...sorry Dad), it's not right there in your face anymore... (it's under the seat)...but--you must find a forum that suits your individual interests and needs. Forums are like gloves...they have to fit.

Okay...so we have a few ice balls and chemtrails and oil stories thrown into the mix...it's not so bad mate. Look at it like this: If we had TEOTWAWKI on rollover--none of us would even be online at all. See...it's not so bad. =)

Lars I like message boards too but this is the best one i have found but would like other ones to.We had such a hot topic with y2k.We just have to wait for the next one.The tv stations do the same thing.Thank goodness we are not as bad as msnbc all tied up on that little Cuban boy.Remember the big hot topic of O.J. not to many hot topics come along to often.I know i never want one like the y2k one again. But all my preps are coming in handy.besides the big disaster didn't happen thank goodnes but things ar still on folding.I think the next big thing might be after april 15 if you know what i mean?.......Ramen

Thanks to all for the suggestions and comments.

Eve--

Do you have a link?

-- Lars (lars@indy.net), January 27, 2000.

This is probably the best forum going right now. You will find that many other boards, regardless of topic, are dominated by small and select groups of posters. Tread on their turf and they will either ignore you or rip you to shreds.

Most forums are topical to some degree, so if you want to drift your commentaries, you will encounter difficulties in that regard too.

Sounds to me like you would be happier in a current events chat room rather than a structured newsgroup.

Lars,

I don't know how to link, but if you go to the top of the current list and click on "New Answers", you'll see a new list. Scroll down a ways until you see a thread that starts with the words, "The Great Deception...". That's it -- just click on it and get ready for an experience you won't soon forget.

By the way, from what I recently heard, there are probably close to 350 posts on it by now.

This forum is great. Good people, interesting and diversified points of view. Good news input from everyone, around the country and world. And no where else could have that funny squirrel guy!!!!!!!!
