Johnny Canuck says "Au Revoir"

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Well, the time has come for another denizen of TimeBomb 2000 to bid a fond adieu (OK, I'll stop with the French words).

I've been a lurker and poster here for the best part of a year, but the combination of Y2K seemingly winding down and expansion plans for my family business means that the time I normally devote to Y2K has to be channeled elsewhere. In addition, my father is scheduled for surgery in the near future and will be out of the business he and I run for 6-8 weeks.

As one of the few non-American posters here, I hope I have brought a different perspective to the board. I know that I have enjoyed reading a lot of the stuff here, even though I might have been in the minority camp.

I'll close by wishing *all* of you health and happiness for the year ahead. It's been a slice.

JC

(PS - I'll be deep, deep, deep behind "enemy lines" next week. Exercising my right enshrined in the Canadian constitution to escape the freaking cold weather, I'm heading to Florida - Canada's 11th province in the winter - for a week. If you see an extremely pale guy with a bit of beer belly trying to stop a 2 year old eating sand then that'll be me. [Narrows it down, eh?!])

Another of my favorites.

JC, from one Canadian to another . . . "Good luck in Florida. Wtach out - they all have guns down there - it's their RIGHT." I'd hate to live in a country where it's the right od of everybody to walk around with guns. Good thing the "Fathers of [their] Country" didn't right the first coupl US Constitutional Amendments in this century . . . otherwise it'd be the constitutional right of every American to carry a nuclear device in a brief case.

Have fun in Florida. Hope the Canucks/Habs/Sens/Flames/Oilers kick the snot outta the Lightening/Panthers.

God Bless & Good Day, Eh?!

I enjoyed your well-balanced posts, Johnny. You'll be missed here. I wish you well, too, and have a good time in Florida.

Paranoia Will,

No response, Americans? Notta notting?

Again, I state, "Good thing that the Fathers of [your] country didn't live in the last half of the 20th century - otherwise their "wisdom" & logic would justify each and every American having the Constitutional Right to "Bear Arms" (i.e. nuclear bombs and/or biological weapons). Of course, nobody ever mentions that the obviously given "wisdom" of the Fathers of the US of A includes no wisdom whatsoever. They were simply a small group of slave-owning bigamists. IF you Americans want to continue to hold these druken nobodies' scrollings as "Self Evident" and, even worse, divinely inspired, THEN you should at least critically examine the men that wrote this trash. They were no better or different than than the people running your major corporations today. The "Fathers" of YOUR country were slave-owning, lying, wife-cheating profiteers. Just like the leaders of your country today. GOD BLESS AMERICA . . . no country on this planet requires blessing more than you!

Johnny,

I haven't read that much of you, but from what I saw, you certainly earned my respect.

I hope your father's surgery is successful, and I wish you and yours the best of luck.
