OT- LaGuardia and Reagan International Airports Closed by Blizzard; New York Socked In

Just one of the tidbits in the story posted under the HEADLINER at the drudgereport now. www.drudgerepoet.com. Could cause a slight uptick in the demand for heating fuels, and delay deliveries for same.

Does anyone know of a website that contains a list of airport closures? I work for a company that does a lot of shipping of perishable product nationwide, and it would be great to know beforehand if a particular airport is closed.

Thanks

You might find out of the FAA or the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Organization (AOPA) has a way to retrieve NOTAMS (Notices To Airmen) from their webs sites. NOTAMS are issued daily and then updated hourly with information concerning the status of every airport in the world.

If you can find a site where you can access NOTAMS then look up the airport you want by its code (usually K--- in the US, like KJFK, KPHL, KMIA, KATL or KLAX). Your baggage tags have the code letters, for example. Then look for statements following all the abreviated comments. Usually when an airport is closed it's plainly stated even though the abreviated comments will indicate a closure.

Thanks Wildweasel,

I looked for NOTAMS on the Google search site and found a .mil site that lets you look for NOTAMS for any airport in the world.

Perfect. Thanks a lot.
