We get the Palm Beach local news here in Vero. Tonight the anchor mentioned a Y2K glitch with the Property Title database that has made it difficult to do title searches the last two weeks. The report said that the information was there, but somehow couldn't be accessed. Yes, the phrase Y2K was used. Don't ask me the station. I was doing something else at the time.

Computer technicians on Monday said they had resolved the glitch in the Palm Beach County Clerk of Circuit Court computer network that was causing mortgage, deed, and other files to disappear from the system's index.

Palm Beach is not a cocaine capitol--that's Miami. Palm Beach is social--always was, from the 1920s when Henry Flagler built two big, exclusive, expensive hotels there. The rich came down in their privately owned train cars that they attached to the Eastern Seaboard Railway trains. The end of the season was a big Washington Days' ball in February.

Nowadays, of course, the Kennedy family has a compound there--where Willie Smith is alleged to have raped a young woman and probably did, although he was acquited. Donald Trump also has an estate there.

Thanks for the Florida lore. I may have been thinking of West Palm---that's quite different than Palm Beach, isn't it?

I once saw an interesting program on the History channel about Flagler and his railroad project--all the way to Key West.

Wonder whatever happened to Wm Kennedy Smith. Still living the lush life I'll bet.
