A WAKE UP CALL

Just THINK ABOUT IT the HIGHER the price of oil is the more percentages in taxes our Governments are putting in there pockets.

So WHY should they RUSH to have the prices lowered

P.S. Does anyone know the percentage of taxes we pay on various fuels. Thanks.

In Tennessee, all gas taxes are based upon the gallons sold....not the dollar cost. I believe it could be argued that higher prices would result in less volume sold...and thus less revenue to the taxing authorities.

Yeah, next time you gas up, look for your state's cent amount per gallon in taxes on the pump.

Frenchie,

In Calif. it's $0.38 *per gallon* tax on gas. Keeping gas prices down (in this state at least) would theoretically encourage people to drive more and so bring in more tax to .gov.

p.s. until today I could get gas at ARCO (El Cheapo here) for $1.19/gal. Today it increased to $1.25/gal. FWIW.

Here in OH it's 35 cents per gallon, but the STATE/COUNTY Sales tax is 7% +/-
