ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates (AP) - The United Arab Emirates said Tuesday it has contained an oil spill from a tanker that sank off its eastern coast in bad weather.

The tanker, Liaza, was carrying 980 tons of crude oil from Abu Dhabi bound for Somalia when it sank Monday, 4 miles off the coast, officials said. About 300 tons of crude had spilled, spreading over an area 1,980 feet by 330 feet.

``The operations to stop the oil from seeping from the ship and to contain the oil spill were completed,'' said the Emirates News Agency, the country's official news agency. <<<
