Gear types in Traction elevators

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Elevator Problem Discussion : One Thread

We generally come across worm or planetary gears in traction elevators. Can helical or heli-worm gear ne used for elevator applications ? Is any of this type of gearing without backlash ?

I would welcome any comments. Thanks, Harsh Shah

Helical gearing can be and is used on traction elevators.

"Backlash" is the clearance between the driver and driven gear and is an inherent consequence of wear with any type of gearing.

Some older elevators had two stages of gearing, using worm gearing nd pinion gearing on the same machine.
