I won a prize once in high school for a short story I had written. The 5 finalists had their stories written out loud. There was one story that was read that was so so much better than mine. It was powerful, it moved me to near tears. (had I not had a reputation in high school to uphold, I would have given in to the tears...)

When the votes came in, and I won....I was so sad for the person who lost. Her story was so much better...I was just more popular. I privately told her that I thought she should have won. I wish I had the courage to have stated it publicly.
