10% power stations run on oil in the electricty industry. Ok, now What is it for coal what is the number nationwide for coal run power plants, we can't stop there, what about the trains? What number runs on oil or electricity? What about JIT, how much is oil dependent in there?

By inventoring everything of the known dependencies you will know how severe a shortage will be to those areas should a shortage hit, it pays to know what we could be up against if the oil starts failing.

Mr. Nichols

Sir, there are the natural gas fired units to take into consideration also (these are quite prevelant in Texas). Now for the coal-fired units!

It is figured that there are approximately 7,800 generation plants in the United States. About (now these are my personal, off the cuff, estimates). Coal fired is about 65%, natural gas is at about 10%, Hydro electric (05%). Oil fueled at about O3%. Another 02% for solor (out in California). And Geothermal And about 15% for nuclear.

There are waste burning generation plants..but both they and other esoteric fueled units don't really count in the mix percentage wise.

It is prudent here to note once again that coal-fired units require fuel oil for their ignitors.

I hope that this may be of some help sir...

Troll Buster: who are you accusing of being a troll?

Brent, I appreciate your numerous posts. Just a quick question. Did you ever post here before New Year's eve? Why are you putting so much energy into this now that it appears to be over? Just curious... No offense intended.

Since we've got a few posts today about the British Navy being "out of fuel" let's not forget ships. <:)=

JoseMiami,
sorry to be imprecise, I was referring to Mr Great Sane the wondrous pup, who doggedly keeps asking the same lame question on every thread.

The latest data that I have on the mix in USA is:

Coal fired 52%

Nuclear 19%

Oil/Gas fired 18%

Hydro 11%
