Gasoline /fuel availability across USA: check in

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I was just wondering what problems people were experiencing across the country with gasoline and fuel. Here in the boondocks of north central Pennsylvania gasoline ranges from $1.29 to $1.34 and hasn't changed in a week. No supply problems seen yet.

Pam,

In Southeast Tenn. Our local Ace Hardware store is selling K-1 kerosene for $1.29 which is up from $1.10 a month ago. The manager said that the supplier raised the rates twice in the past month. He also said there was plenty in stock.

No shortages in Central Virginia. 87 octane about $1.27 and 93 about $1.38 or so. These are in rural areas though.

Here in Hutchinson, MN gas is $1.35 gallon for regular, and $1.50 for premium. About a week ago, our local Amoco ran out of regular gasoline; my husband had to fill up with premium. I got gas in my car on Friday afternoon, and the station had regular unleaded gas again. Gas went up 20 cents overnight last week Monday morning.

We're reputedly the spendiest in the US here in Oregon, according to the local rag: minimum at the "cheapo" stations is $1.33 for unleaded.

I haven't had the displeasure of buying gas for a couple of weeks, but haven't heard of any supply problems.

Just came back from a trip to the market. Mobil is at 1.45 for reg, up to 1.59 for the good stuff.

What made us all go 'Wow!' was the price of diesel: $1.97 /gal.

I thought my eyeballs were going to fall out. Across the road at Citgo, diesel is $1.96 (what a deal!) so I know it's not just the guy at the Mobil station acting crazy.

I certainly will not be thrilled if heating oil gets to that price! Course, by then, the power stations will be shutting down, so who needs oil?

Just got off the phone with mom and dad, who live in a suburb outside of Cleveland. Regular was $1.54 and Premium $1.72! They were gonna drive to Florida in 2 weeks. With bad winter storms and high gas prices - decided to fly. Got a great deal $160/round trip (including that $20 fuel surcharge).

-- Cheryl (Transplant@Oregon.com), January 23, 2000.

Central CT...Mobil regular 87 octane @ $1.49 per gallon. Noticed a bunch of other stations in my travels today. Prices just about where they have been. No lines. No apparent shortages.
