Sunflower seed sheller

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Hi, we've got lots of volunteer sunflowers growing here. I'd like to be able to get the shells off, so we could grind the seeds into flour.

Anyone know of a machine, preferably hand powered, but electric would work, which does this chore?

Thanks for any help.

never have run across such a machine, you could try running shells in blender on pulse then putting mess into bowel of water [kernels would sink shells would float] then just dry kernels.

When I bought my Corona from catalog from Utah, I remember them mentioning shelling sunflower seeds. Don't remember if you use regular Corona with burrs set just little smaller than width of sunflowerseeds or whether it was some special attachment. If you have a Corona or simular flour mill, you might experiment with different settings. If you see my reply and are still interested, I can try and find my catalog.
