My apologies...

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I just re-read a few responses I made tonight to a few of the,how to put it, people that hang around here for the sole purpose of ridiculing someone, anyone?

I over reacted, I think, and let myself respond emotionally. I apologize to any of the real members of this forum that my comments may have offended...

Freedom of speech has it's drawbacks, but it still is better than anything else we've been able to come up with.

Why don't those people who have determined that Y2K was nothing but a hoax go find something else to do? Are their lives really that dismal that the only pleasure they get is finding someplace where they can hide behind fake names & e-mails and ridicule people who stand up and say what they feel to be true, regardless of whether those predictions are 100%, 10% or 0% on target?

Well, like I try to teach my 9 year old, if they're teasing you, walk away, don't get upset, because all it does is feed their cruelty... time to practice what I preach...

Carl, time to stand up to the bully! Walking away they view as weakness. There is no "rising above" in their mind set. I wish there was, really,...but there is not. The control types are all-or- nothing, i.e. weak or strong. They have NO middle ground. Push back, heh.

Carl,

"Are their lives really that dismal that the only pleasure they get is finding someplace where they can hide behind fake names & e-mails and ridicule people...?" Sadly, yes :-(

My Dear Mr. Carl

Sir do not be too hard on yourself. I to, fell by the way side, so to speak. And have at times snapped (once I apoligized to every one in here and offered to cease my presence in this forum). Graciously, my Rant over someone being censored (while that same person was cutting me high wide and handsome in another thread). Was over looked by the forum. To tell the truth! I have made only three apologies in the last twenty years, the one I made to this forum being one of them.

But I shall never forget the humilation of defending some one; all the while they where trying to demean my person...

Since then, I will admit to being just a little snippish also. Once a bully is shown politeness, they take the act as a sign of weakness. And will intensify their efforts.

And, when they do get into my feild of knowledge.I WILL go to particulars with them on the disputed subject(s). And do so, in the language used out on the construction site; not the polite retoric I prefer to use here.

Just now Mikey2k on a few threads above this one; is asking for a simple explanation of how a digital controlled valve (he doesn't know that that is what it is). Can. or will cause an explosion in an oil refinery, if it should fail in the "closed" position.. When the mother board comes under an incorrect date signal, or else it's internal clock rolls over.; Or the "buffer" gets one too many looped incorrect commands, and causes the system to lock up..

We are getting too close now for me to take someone on a calibration tour, as I had offered to do, nearly a year ago. The embedded systems are failing as I feared (and said) they would. The almost mystical infomagic had the right of it! "Death by a thousand cuts"!

But again.please do not be too hard on yourself. I think to some extent, all of us are feeling the stress.

Thanks guys...

Shakey, I've been hearing rumours embedded failures are rising, and I know for a fact that a lot of those systems that rolled ok are not going to like the leap year at all.. :) you would not believe how many switches and routers I had to replace because while 01/01/00 was no problem......

I understand why many of us are stil here that have followed this thing for years, if not on the TB2000 board, in other ways and places .. but why these people that believe nothing happened, is happening, or will happen, are still hanging out here is beyond me...

Can we petition AOL to start a chat room for ex-TB2000-trolls? But then again, all they would have to play with is themselves, which may be the root of their problem....

Youranidiot;

I suggest you start looking for a new job...

Regardless of how the market plays, your job is history...

I personally gave no investment advice here, although many did... some where right, some where wrong, about like you, only they weren't taking a cut either way it went...

If you're always right, then why are you dependent on old people gullibale enough to follow your advice so you can collect your fees? Shouldn't you be kicking back in the Bahamas somewhere, enjoying the fruits of your wisdom?

My grandmother lost her life savings to some little prick broker trying to churn his fees... and it was a lot more than any early redemption fees...

You've got a lot of room to talk, vulture...

-- Carl (clilly@goentre.com), January 21, 2000.

laugh;

see my post above about damage done to "old fogies"... the games not over yet, but the fucking you've been giving to "old fogies" for years is what is really shameless...

My grandmother had enough to live on comfortably for the rest of her life, until some punk broker talked her into hanging in.. "just profit tacking, don't worry.."

Myself, mom, aunts, uncles, and a few cousins got together and chipped in to make ends meet for her after TSHTF...

Broker scum... nothing but parasites... and have the nerve to bitch here because you had a few less "old fogies" to bloodsuck...

-- Carl (clilly@goentre.com), January 21, 2000.

Hummm...

I wasn't contrite very long, was I?

Sigh....

-- Carl (clilly@goentre.com), January 21, 2000.

My level of "respect" for brokers goes to "Here are my WRITTEN orders. DON'T DEVIATE!" because I watched a broker who had a CLEAR fiduciary responsibility to my mom cost her 10 grand in TAXES one year because he churned her account. Made HIMSELF a cool 30 G's on the churn. Mom was a bit 'Preoccupied" with her Alzheimers husband that year, so she didn't catch the problem until tax time. She had sort of noticed that the fund wasn't growing anymore but hadn't looked hard.

Hey! Stock Market Drummer!

Why don't you come over here and kiss my @$$! I just moved everything I had, and took a penitly (sp)...Because the turd I used for a money manager, thought he was some sort of finiancial wizard! (He's a stock broker also; not to mention lay minster of a church!

The old boy, told me he thought he could make some real money for me (he gets a percntage, if he gets me more than 9% interes). In any case Stock Market scum...The guys gts in on a stocks, his "signals" says are going up, up ,

ReAL GOOD SIGNALS! he went in with 94K and pulled out three days later (he told me,as fast as he could get out). And got me a real good return! I had 83K in my portfolio.

It is all parked now where one of you compulsive gamblers can't get to it...

Carl/Shakey etc. no apology needed - this forum is overrun by assholes and you have to sink to their level occassionally to get through their thick craniums... FWIW I post on several other forums and it's like chalk and cheese - gotta wear armour here unfortunately :o)

-- Andy (2000EOD@prodigy.net), January 21, 2000.

Carl, If anything you say contributes to getting on their nerves the way they get on ours--cool.

-- Mara (MaraWayne@aol.com), January 21, 2000.

Youranidiot and Laugh,

When I eliminated the personal attacks and random, off-the-wall eruptions from your posts, all that was left were your handles.

I assume then, those are the sum and substance of all the argument you could muster. Thanks for trying, anyway.

-- eve (123@4567.com), January 21, 2000.

Carl,

Hang in there, guy. If the two that I responded to above are typical of what you're experiencing, just know that no real "mind" (e.g., reason, logic, civility) has yet manifested itself in their posts. So just look at those posts as, say, random utterings from parrots. I think you'll then find they're easier to brush off.

-- eve (123@4567.com), January 21, 2000.

Andy, you said,

" I post on several other forums and it's like chalk and cheese" What does "chalk and cheese" mean? I've never heard that expression before. Is it particular to some region?

Frank

-- Someone (ChimingIn@twocents.com), January 21, 2000.

Yeah Andy, been scrathing my head over that "chalk and cheese" reference myself...

Care to edify.. :)

-- Carl (clilly@goentre.com), January 21, 2000.

Yes - chalk - i sometimes misbehave here because i lose patience with the imbeciles...

cheese - i am the perfect gentleman everwhere else!!! :o)

-- Andy (2000EOD@prodigy.net), January 21, 2000.

Andy,

Thanks for the reply, but dense as I am, I have to admit I'm still just as far in the dark as before :( Chalk? Cheese? Is this a Brit thing?

Unknowingly,

Frank
