Substation fire causes blackout in Sydney

Source: AAP | Published: Friday January 21, 7:08 AM

Electricity authorities said power supplies in Sydney's south west should be fully restored this morning, after an overnight fire blacked out more than 25,000 homes. The blaze in the roof of the battery room at the Ingleburn substation erupted shortly before 10pm yesterday. A Transgrid spokesman said most of the homes and businesses from Macquaire Feilds to Campbelltown had power restored this morning, with the remainder to be switched back on early today. Emergency crews had been working through the night but it was not yet known what had caused the blaze.

Remember how the world watched New Zealand and Australia for advance warning and early signs of failure during the rollover? Keep watching: they're here now.
