Will there be consequences for the press.

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I've had it with the national media.

When most Americans have lost their life savings and many others are bankrupt from called margins, will we buy the comming rationalization, and blame game from the press.

Or will we bring some folks to justice? Just curious!

"Let he who is without sin cast the first stone".

Who are you going to "bring to justice"? And what kind of punishment have you got in mind?

Did you ever work for a newspaper? A TV station? The Associated Press? Do you even know the four "W"s that must go in every news story?

It's not a far distance to go from blaming the national media to blaming the Jews, the Blacks, Democrats, Republicans, whoever... And from there, it's not a far distance to go to start talking about lynchings and murders.

Dave, the major networks stopprd reporting "the news" long ago. The sheeple have been lulled into a long sleep.

The major networks are owned by corporate America, they have an agenda. The Clintoon administration has demonstrated that if members of the media go to far astray in their reporting they will be treated accordingly.

You sir, aparently have been one of those lulled to sleep long term. What a RUDE AWAKENING you are in for!!

Thousands of people lose money everyday in Reno, Las Vegas, Atlanta, and California gambling. I have no idea how many states have the lottery, but there's no difference in pulling the handle of a slot machine or gambling in the stock market. People lose their life savings, their welfare checks, their paychecks, and their loved ones. Either way you look at it, your investing in something in hopes of winning some money. So who are you going to bring to justice? It's not up to the media to tell people what to do with their money or how to live their life. If I remember correctly, many were ranting on TB2000 because the media was lying to us about Y2K. They simply were not reporting the facts, and the media was going to be responsible for not warning people to prepare. The fact of the matter is, look out for yourself and if you go bankrupt, it's no one's fault but your own.

I was watching Politically Incorrect on TV last night and the discussion was focused on the government paying certain shows to write anti-drug sentiments into their story line. (Progaganda slinging at it's finest!)

Did anyone else catch the show or have any additional info/url to share? I'd be interested in following *this* one for sure!

What is a Dave Polich? I mean, what possesses someone to post lecture after snippy lecture, scolding people here for, essentially, "thinking too much?" For every topic, he has nothing to say but "follow, obey, and be quiet." Where is that coming from?

Either he has a weak sense of personal identity and feels so uncomfortable with independent critical thinking that he's made it his personal crusade to stamp such thinking out of existence, or he's being paid to calm people down and get them to appreciate being lied to (a growth industry, I'm given to understand). Have I missed any other possibilities?

I thought it was a decent enough point snuffy. Dave asked some challenging questions more than making personal attacks like you did. Of course, I may be missing the point because I don't know what other posts you're referring to. Could you link them, if they are that vital to your position?

I guess I have to go along with the idea that your money/investments. etc. are your responsibility. If as individuals we abdicate our control over our money and investments why should we hold someone else responsible for any failures, downturns? The whole concept of blaming someone else for my mistakes still elludes me. I mad the mistake, why is it your fault? Did I neglect to do my own research? I do not trust anybodys advice when it comes to money or investments unless I have done my homework. I am not an expert by any stretch in money or investing. I do pay attention to all of the news that is available and make my decisions based on what I discern to be realistic. Reporters, TV shows, newsletters are only sources of information, not the final word on anything.

Don't look for anyone to blame until you look into the mirror first. If I screw up then it is my fault, not anybody elses.

Er, snuffy, did you READ Dave's posts? IMO, he's saying that blaming the media is scapegoating. In other words, why are you blaming Stacey Implants on Happy Face News, when she's only responding to Joe Sixpack's need to have news fed to him in ten second soundbites?

Sure, it would be nice if Stacey suddenly started giving it straight, with all that dull confusing stuff like context, but Joe would just turn over until he finds another Good Hair and Happy Face anchor. Why not praise and evangelise those channels that DO carry better content, and try and persuade your friends to watch them, rather than pointlessly berating Stacey?

In other words: it's Joes fault, not Stacey's.
