Still...

Ya gotta admit...it sure startled a number of folk this late at night.

Technical question...is there a JPEG filter on this board??? The offensive Pix had an *ART* file extension, yet it was an obvious photograph.

-- Z (Z@Z.Z), January 18, 2000.

Yep, I can vouch for that! Chuck, you are my hero. Thank you for taking care of that so quickly. And Squirrel, I found him at MSN frl chat.

---uhhh, dumb question, can't you block the anonymiser and public proxies? Just do em once and forget? Wouldn't stop anyone from looking here, but would stop anonymous spam nasties. Maybe, don't know. Simply loathe this hacker crap, goes way beyond dislike. either by private goons or public gov goons, plain don't like it. Would gladly cough up 5 clams or something to be part of a subscription service where everyone must register with a real isp email addy, and the site is super password protected. just a thought. goons probably get through that, too.

We COULD but that requires Phil to sit down and work his magic with the Unix box.

NOT a good idea to request a few IP addresses a day.

We get to delete as fast as we can.

Runnin in place

*.ART is an AOL (only)file extension.

Diane

Would a complaint to exodus.net the provider for www.anonymizer.com help in any way?

-- PA Engineer (PA Engineer@longtimelurker.com), January 19, 2000.

Whenever I come across a porn spam, I just look it over and go on. Why do so many feel to dash off an alert to get it removed? It seems like a rather childish response. Just ignore it. What's the big deal. Please explain if I am in the wrong...educate me. I promise to be open-minded.

If a streaker ran across your lawn, would you drop what you are doing and call 911 or the local paper?

Why then would you make it an urgent task to alert SYSOPS?

Please answer...

--Joseph, the main thing is that with the weirdos, it doesn't stop at an occassional "one". They are psychopaths, and need ever increasing doses of power to feel what passes for "normal" for them. I don't think anyone here is going to swoon with the vapors at seeing a porno pic or anything, it's just the whole idea of cyber vandalism that is repulsive. These same miscreants would most likely be the loudest screamers if someone hakked their site, or destroyed or defaced their work or equipment. When does graffitti become a crime? Obviously, when it's sprayed on someone elses wall, that's when. If-say-you had a nice garden, how much of it trampled would you tolerate, or leave destroyed? I imagine "not much", and "none" would be the answers then. Just depends on what's important to you. Folks should be free from harm by others, especdially malicious, intentional harm, no matter how trivial any one incident is, the cumulative effect can be quite high.

Joseph Almond,

Usually I check posts late at night, but sometimes do after dinner with the kids sitting around reading or playing Pokeman next to me.

Why should I have to explain why people post porno to a 6 year old? I believe that people who wish to look at porno have the obligation to shield their kids from it, but why should I have to hide the monitor from the kids when my intent is to be reading text? To me the posting of what I would consider highly inappropriate material is in this setting wrong because it will force me to alter my behavior.

Selfish reasoning? Not really, by the "Golden Rule", I just want others to have as much *basic* respect for my value system as I have for theirs. NOTE: I am NOT saying that they don't have the right to post porno, but rather they should post it where it would be "on topic".

BTW, to look at things differently, I'm sure they wouldn't want to go to their fave porn site and instead of downloading Lusty Sally end up getting 15 pages of doomer rants.

Starting to feel a Rant coming on,

Frank

Joseph --

IN my case there are two good reasons:

1) I regularly print out threads, take them home, file them or cluip them into related sheaves and pass them around dto various acquaintances -- including my PRIEST!!!!!! Porno not a good idea at St. Francis Parish;

2) I log on at a University Library, which allows community patrons, so long as they behave. If I'm reading a thread and a photo comes up with -- as Hokie sez "stick foam" or "sticky foam" -- while my screen is visible to all the co-eds and the lady librarians, I'm history and so is my participation on this board. So for objective verifiable reasons, it can't stay;

3) There are other sites for this death-trash. Go visit if you must.

Then there's this small matter. The porn was posted by someone using the real name and e-mail address of a regular contributor to this forum. And, the porno post stated that it was a picture of this person. Just a small coincidence, I'm sure, that LL has written numerous threads at Debonkers professing her hatred of said regular. Gee...you don't suppose...?

-- (Delete@Smeg.com), January 19, 2000.

Joseph,

In all due respect, the pic posted on this forum last night was far from that of a "streaker". It would certainly fall under the category of "hard core porn". The photo and some of the pornographic posts are intended to disrupt the forum and discredit certain individuals.

To those who choose to post pornography on this forum, (in case you are reading this), I would say that is -unwise- to do so. You never know who is LQQKING.

Thanks. ~Dee =)
