Pulling For You! slogan

greenspun.com : LUSENET : ACL and SAL Railroads Historical Society : One Thread

To my understanding, SCL began putting the "Pulling For You!" slogan on locos around 1971. It would seem logical that the older units would recieve it when shopped. I know this is a long shot, but did any SCL U30Cs or any of the GP30s sent to L&N get the slogan at any point in time? I would appreciate any information.

I have in my HO scale modle railroad a custom paited Athearn GP 9 with the "Pulling For You" slogan and I always saw them when I went down to Florida either in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina or in Georgia on some specific trains that were running on the SCL at the time when SCL was still a railroad. As us Seaboard/Atlantic Coast Line/Seaboard Coast Line/CSX fans go about seeing all the great trains of this great railroad its always good to know that we see the slogan in books and magazines which may have something on the SCL featured in that certain magazine. I am sure you can find any books on the SCL with pictures of the GE's with the "Pulling For You(US)" slogan but I am not sure about seeing the anyhting on the locomotives you have mentioned above getting the "Pulling For YOU" slogan on them.

also all SD45-2's were delivered with it applied

U30C 2121 had the slogan, but only on the engineer's side, I believe. I think she was the only latter day GE 6 axle w/it (I'm too young to remember SCL's U25C's) As regards other units, basically all GP40's had it, most SD45's had it and all the original SCL GP38-2's came w/it. GE's as a rule never had it. I think the many battery doors under the cab would cause too many strange transpositions--but that's no worse than the "PulliSBDr You!" that some sported late in the game.

After reading your post about PFY slogans on SCL units I went through my slide collection and counted 188 units with PFY slogan. This said there must be more than that as I'm missing some units.

Thanks for the timely responses. I saw 2122 in Spartanburg after the formation of Seaboard System. A big problem was the fact that SBD put their initials on a lot of locos' battery boxes, painting over the slogan and making it hard to tell if some engines ever had it applied. I have a handful of old old photos and could help in documenting which diesels had "Pulling For You!" applied. Thanks again.

I have shots of U30C's #2121 and #2123 taken in 1982, on SCL Train #110, at South Collier Yard, and neither unit carried the slogan. I don't have any photos of a GP30 with the slogan, but I did have a shot of a GP35 (#1409) in a storage line at Hamlet, NC in 1984, sporting a freshly applied slogan. If the group would like to start a list of which units carried the slogan, I'd be willing to make a list from my collection of photos and slides.
