Nick Guarino's Y2k post-mortem

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

For the enjoyment of those who asked about his predictions last year.

Here it comes, from Burnsville, MN, Jan 2000, Wall Street Underground, Vol.4, No.9 "I told you for a long time Y2K would be a non-event. I resent the 'experts' who took advantage of the public. I carefully analyzed Y2K.

I am familiar with the programming language --Cobalt-- used in most computers that had potential Y2K problems. I have worked a lot with embedded processors, and I am computer literate." etc...

Maybe he knows more about metals than computers?

Well, we can handle cobalt -- just as long as they don't throw any krypton at us superprogrammers, we can continue to leap over tall mainframes in a single bound, code with both hands and both feet at the same time, and generally perform dazzling feats of derring-do (and chewing gum at the same time) without even breathing hard

Bring on de cobalt... Bring on de manganese... Give us some chromium!

What is even more weird is the address I went to was a medical mfg. facility. I entered and down the hallway through a door posted, "Employees Only" and to my right a door with no identifcation which led to a desk where several people process his paper.
