What does "OT" mean? Also a note to the "old timers".

Tee hee. Maybe that's what "OT" means--"Old timer". I see it frequently before the subject headings.

I have been just a newbie lurker until now. I also want to say that I see old timers saying their goodbyes on here for one reason or another. I wish they wouldn't do that. I wish they wouldn't be so final about it. I have felt so sorry when I learn that I have missed out on someone. It would be nice if they would just not say anything if they have nothing to say but check in periodocally 'cause one never knows... A poster just may say something really important that the old timer could respond to.

I am so sorry I didn't know about this forum during 1999. I was an avid reader and poster of the forums I did know about. Yours looks really terrific. And now the old timers are leaving. What a shame. If they were smart enough to contribute much about Y2K, then they are smart enough to bring up other interests that could be engaging for everyone.

Ann..we are all addicted to the forum. Don't worry, all the old timers will be lurking now and then. They/we just can't resist. OT means off topic. However, I am not sure that anything is OT now that Y2K is not such an all consuming issue. But it was important to the forum when we were all so emeshed in y2k issues. That way, if you didn't care to read anything except y2k, you could pass over the OTs. And Welcome to the forum.

Usually, Off Topic.

I agree with you ANNE in TN. I've missed a lot of old timers who used to post here, yet they were here because of the y2k problem. That's the reason for OT, which means Off Topic. This forum has become anything BUT on topic. We now cover any worldwide event failure, govrn/infrastructure, stock markets, oil pricing, religion, taxation, etc. And we are still chasing that elusive BUG.

Welcome aboard! There is something here for everyone spirit.

I started lurking and occasionally posting in late summer. Guess that makes me MA middle aged :) So, welcome (if I have the right to say that)

The forum is addictive. It is morphing to news of oil, gold global events, and the stock market. You still see breaking news here first, whether it is Y2K related or not.

A lot of smart people with subject matter expertise post information, and so do a few who have their own agendas. The last week before the rollover was something else with the spamming and hundreds of posts a day and the robot dialer that closed everything down a few times.

I suspect it isn't going away any time soon.

Anne,

Welcome! I'm not really an "old timer" (I've been posting here since late last summer or so), but I'm never going to say goodbye. With all the great people here (intelligent, funny, compassionate, etc.), how could I?

Right now, in fact, I'm having a wonderful time on what, in my humble opinion, is the greatest OT thread ever. It's called "The Great Deception..." It's on philosophical and religious issues. There are lots of individual and group discussions going on in it. You'll find it by clicking on "New Answers", and scrolling down. Come join us!

I've been lurking for a while and contributing comments on occasion and have to agree that this is the most interesting and informative forum I've found in 3 years of researching/working on Y2K. The changing scope of discuccions is too good to give up. IMHO
