website for cows?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Hello to all. I hope that someone can help me. I've got a dairy cow that, I hope, is bred. I did have a great website to refer to when I needed general questions answered about such things, but have lost it. Can anyone direct me to another that can give info about gestation (days), when to stop milking, and how to deal with the calf? I suppose I could buy a book,(Library had none) but I like to get info cheap through the web. :0) Thanks for the help.\ Patrice

Patty, check out www.real-food.com. This is Joann Grohman's website, she is the author of "Keeping a Family Cow". Lots of good info, plus her "heifer diary" about milking a newly fresh heifer. I highly recommend her book, also. (you can order it from her) Also, I belong to an e-mail list, familycow@onelist.com Go to www.onelist.com and search for "familycow". There are many helpful folks on this list, including a jersey dairyman, and I have had many questions/problems answered by him and others. Best wishes with your cow! They are really a wonderful asset to the homestead. We love our jerseys! Hope this is helpful.
