from what i was told, all nukes were mandated to power down to 70% in november. this was part of an insurance program for y2k. until all systems can be checked, they will stay that way and it could take months for that. what we should be concerned about is the private reactors owned and operated by foreigners here in the u.s.. thats right, private. for example, the archer daniel midland plant in iowa city, iowa. and God forbid if nasa has any!

My guess is that right now there are more reactors at 100% power than there have been the last three years, from browsing through the NRC daily report archives.

John,

Your statement indicates that we are producing more electricity from nuclear plants than ever before. Since we are in a low demand period (winter), we must have more fossil or hydro fueled plants shut down than ever before.

How do you explain this?

i was told nuke plants would power down. this was by two customers. you see, i sell generators. real hardcore stuff....wood fired steam genny's. they are expensive enough to demand seriousness from the purchacer. cash=truth in my book. however.....i have been wrong before. and however, one of my friends at a power plant says that they are still on manual. another nuke plant friend is still in turkey working on a problem nuke there. So, the bottom line is that when i hear bad news from now on, i am just going to turn on the networks and get a dose of happy reality. (ha)

you know, this whole thing reminds me of the 70's oil crisis. we really didn't learn anything from it, we just pimped our personal lives off to longer hours to pay for the higher prices.

OT...Archer Daniels Midland Corp. am I the only one that hates this greedy power hungry corporation? I lived in Decatur, Il, and they did nothing but take advantage of workers in unsuitable work environments, and stink up the entire town, as well as putting a "film" on the paint of your car that would NOT come off...

Just my two cents for a worthless company ran by worthless people.
