Military plane delay

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

My son has finished his 6 month tour in Sinai, Egypt. He was scheduled to fly out back to the states today. I just talked to my daughter-in-law and she has received word that he is delayed another 24 hours. Apparently, mechanical problems has forced the plane into repairs FOUR times since from it's original destination. No specific reasons for problems was given. I'd rather see him take a slow boat from China at this point. I'm planning on flying down to his base to see him, but, think I'll bite the bullet and drive. Sure will feel better when he's on home soil, I've been holding my breath that all hell would break out over there and he'd be stuck. Also, just watched the News, (Special Report), Channel 2 out of Detroit. A single engine Piper had landing gear problems, had to circle the Macomb County Airport numerous times. It finally landed safely in a grassy field. No reported reasons given at this time. Everyone safe and no injuries!

Very glad to hear the mil is erring on the side of caution, and so your son remains safe!!!

There's alot in the Federal Registry today of landing gear problems. They identified several planes that need to be checked because specific gear is corroding more rapidly than anticipated.

Trish

Take it easy. I was in the Marines and I can remember more flights cancelled or delayed due to mechanical problems than flights getting out on the first try.

They'll get him back as safley as possible or they will put him on that slow boat.

A single engine Piper and the C-130 or whatever he's flying home on are worlds about. They'll get him here okay.

Take a deep breath. It'll be okay.
