VCD 3.0

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I am keen on knowing about VCD 3.0 and eventually producing something with it.

I hope someone can share his/her knowledge on this, or tell me who or which internet link I can obtain more information on the subject. I would also like to know where I can buy a VCD built with 3.0 features. Private works, especially for education, are also welcomed.

Thanks in advance.

VCD 3.0 differs from VCD 2.0 only by the fact that you can have animated menus (menu screens with animation, sort of like DVD) and internet hyperlinks to web sites.

Currently, only I-Author Delux can create VCD 3.0 (the only english software to my knowledge) discs as well as SuperVCD (SVCD) discs on the Windows NT platform.

I don't know where to look on the internet for VCD 3.0 capable players nor titles, but I know that they are abundant in asia. There are even DVD players in places like China that play DVD, VCD 2.0, VCD 3.0, SVCD, CVD (china video disc...yet another format that i dont know too much about), MP3 CDs.

Hope this helps!

P.S. For those of you wondering, i cannot and will not offer I-Author software to anyone. I have been emailed over and over for this. I will not give it out nor do i know where to get it!!!

Daniel, you must be kidding us! You are from Singapore, the heaven for VCDs, and you don't know where to lay your hands on a Version 3.0 VCD player? Take the MRT or a taxi to the Peoples Park Complex or better still to Sim Lim Square. There sell VCD and DVD players of all sorts, even come in compact sizes like Walkman units, with their own colour LCD screens. I regret not buying the JVC 777 that has three individual disc trays and plays SuperVCD when I visited there recently. The two players I bought are Version 3.0.

To Tomo,

I think you misunderstood me. I am not talking about the player but the disc itself, and also, how to make one. Incidentally, I already have a VCD 3.0 player and am still looking for a 3.0 VCD to try it.

A point I have yet to establish is whether VCD 3.0 is hardware- enabled or software-enabled, ie., using can be built onto a VCD through authoring software. So far, I know EnReach I-Author authoring software has such capability.

Hope you have something more concrete to share.
