If someone out there could explain to me how to create a Hot Link from a posting here at TB2000 to another website I would be very grateful!

Thanks,

Z guy [are we related}:

One last time: Choose a URL. Lets say http://www.cnn.com.

Write the followin

(A HREF="http://www.cnn.com") CNN(/A)

Replace the two ( with < and the two ) with> . It will look like this

/CNN

The computer center at the U. of Illinois has a nice primer that you can download on HTML. My students find it very useful.

1) Read an HTML book
2) No fricking hotlinks required -- use copy and paste back and forth from location window to text and vice versa

See the trouble you can get into trying HTML at home?

Z Guy:

The NCSA link is

NCSA Primer

If you go to Alta Vista and search for HTML you will get more documents than you can read in a lifetime on this subject.

Best wishes,,,

Link may or may not work. If not go to http://www.nsca.uiuc.edu and write HTML in search. It will take you to all of their documents on the subject.

Best wishes,,,

If you click on the link Diane just posted, it contains a response from Arnie Rimmer that is the best HotLink advice I've seen.

just cut and paste what he has posted. none of this "remove the brackets and replace with the left arrow...etc etc"

but make sure you read his whole post. especially the last part.

thanks Arnie!

PlunK:

I guess that you have never taught this stuff. One doesn't " none of this "remove the brackets and replace with the left arrow...etc etc" but in a real environment one presents it this way so something will show up on the screen. Just like Paul always said. From me it is Geez.

Best wishes,,,

Been wanting to try this for a long time!

-- thanks_for_reading (help_me@html.code), January 18, 2000.

well, I find it much easier to cut and paste this:

XXX

instead of going to the source code (usually)

Just fill in the first XXX with the URL, and the second XXX with whatever name I want for the link.

This would seem to be the simplest way for most people.

<<>a href="http://www.pbs.org/"<>>PBS<<>/a<>>

-- sandi (sadihere@mailcity.com), January 18, 2000.

whoops, wrong paste. This one should work (?) <a href="XXX">XXX</a> copy the text above, paste it in your message.
replace the first XXX with the URL, replace the second XXX with whatever name you want to give the link. I hope I got it right this time...I just swiped it from Arnie Rimmer.

-- plonk! (realaddress@hotmail.com), January 18, 2000.

and now let's format it correctly ...yeesh

This one should work (?)

<a href="XXX">XXX</a>

copy the text above, paste it in your message.

replace the first XXX with the URL, replace the second XXX with whatever name you want to give the link.

Z1X4Y7, I think THIS is the link you were trying for.

If on netscape, go to view and page source and you will know what I mean. I need some slack here. I've been on MD-80's for a week. Our LAN was upgraded and hasn't worked at all. Today I could open my e-mail file; I get as many as 200/day. I had a mess; including about 50 from the sysop telling me that my mailbox was beyond its limit. [personal note send him a destructive virus]. HTML is simple if you memorize the instructions. As a beginning go to the primer. If you want to go further go to something like the Complete Reference HTML by Thomas A Powell {McGraw Hill}. There are others. By the way [less than blink more than inserted word less than / blink more than will make the inserted word blink and drive people nuts]. It is a first step toward being annoying.
