Update: Chemical spill that caused one of Indiana's largest fish kills is now political football.

The cause of the spill is still under investigation.

This excerpt from Ball State University Press in Indiana:

"The politics of dead fish has come back to haunt Gov. Frank O'Bannon with Republicans from across the state lambasting the incumbent governor as the election season approaches.

Like carp found floating in the White River last month political mudslinging has become the rage and even forced O'Bannon to add a reference about dead fish to his state of the state address Wednesday night. Republicans, however, beat O'Bannon to the punch on Tuesday as both gubernatorial candidate John Price and GOP state chairman Mike McDaniel delivered broadsides.

"The severity of the fish kill in the White River  the worst in a generation  demonstrates the need for tougher penalties," O'Bannon told lawmakers gathered in the Statehouse.

McDaniel added that O'Bannon had completely "bungled" the state's response to the fish kill, which investigators at the Indiana Department of Environmental Management believe was caused by chemical spill at Guide Corp. of Anderson. More than 61 tons of dead fish have been removed from the waters of the White River on a 50-mile stretch between Anderson and Indianapolis.

I've been following this situation. The only thing I can say is that I am taking my own bottled water to Indy when I work.

The chemical spill is being blamed on Guide Corp but the chemicles are being fed into the white river by Anderson Water Company. Guide Corp is denying that the problem originated from their plant.
