An excellent essay, written in 1850. It must be enjoying fairly wide distribution just now, as it is # 90 on Amazon's chart as of yesterday.

Something to ponder on a Sunday afternoon.

Godspeed,

Maybe something to ponder on Monday night. Today, all I want to ponder is the Colts whupping Tennessee.

Thanks Pinkrock, here is another book written back in that era which may be appropriate in todays stock market enviornment.

It was written back in 1841 by Charles MacKay and talks about a number of financial MANIAS prior to that period.

Extraordinary Popular Delusions & the Madness of Crowds

Other than the Bible, if I had to preserve ONE piece of writing, it would be The Law by Bastiat. I would keep that EVEN before the declaration of Independence or our Constitution. It is THAT important a work.

Er, make that 56 to 17.

Thank You Pinkrock for posting this, I have put Lexrex Home in my Favorites.
Thank you Paul for shocking me with your statement! I read the essay
because of your claims, my eyes are still red and 'teared up' from reading this, a truely powerful work.

-- Possible Impact (posim@hotmail.com), January 16, 2000.

Lars -- too bad about the Colts :o)
All -- Bastiat's "The Law" is an extremely worthwile read. Until we have read stuff like that, we "know" a lot of things about politics and government that just aren't so.
