TV host arrested during show By Brigid Murphy Stewart / State Correspondent WINCHESTER, Tenn. -- With a camera rolling and a live broadcast in progress, a well-known Franklin County cable access television show host was arrested last night on charges of harassment and resisting arrest.

TV-CN owner David Parrish was taken into custody by Franklin County Sheriff's officers at 7:21 p.m., according to Franklin County Correctional Officer Scott McKay. Authorities would not elaborate on the charges. McKay said bail will be set this morning, and TV-CN broadcast a notice later in the evening that Parrish would appear in court at 9 a.m. today.

Just after 7 p.m. yesterday, Parrish was surprised by officers during his nightly program, which usually includes commentary about local happenings and issues, and takes calls from viewers. Parrish is known locally for being outspoken, even controversial at times.

Through a door, Parrish and the officers sent to arrest him talked while the live broadcast continued. Parrish asked the officers what he was being charged with, and was told a warrant had been issued for his arrest on a harassment charge. Parrish then began appealing to his audience for assistance.

"I need some people to come down to the jail and post bond," Parrish said. Then he turned his attention back to the officers.

"I'm in my shorts," Parrish said. "Hang on a minute and let me get some (long) pants on, I've got my short pants on."

The broadcast originates from Parrish's home.

At one point, Parrish told his audience: "I thought we had the First Amendment here in Franklin County. Have you ever seen anything like this?"

Officers, who soon warned him through the door they were coming in.

"You're going to break the door down?" Parrish asked. "I need some help here, cable viewers. They are going to break the door in."

As banging could be heard in the background, Parrish called to the officers, "Hang on, I'm going to let you in, let me turn the light on, hang on."

Still, Parrish kept the door closed. After a few more minutes, more loud noise could be heard in the background and Parrish yelled out, "They are coming in. They broke the door down, viewers."

After the arrest, TV-CN continuously broadcast taped footage of the incident, and viewers were urged to call the Franklin County Jail to voice their opinion about what had happened. McKay confirmed last night that his department was being inundated with calls.

Hmm.

>With a camera rolling and a live broadcast in progress, a >well-known Franklin County cable access television show >host was arrested last night on charges of harassment and >resisting arrest.

So the original charge was harassment??? And they broke down a door to arrest someone on that charge so they could add resisting arrest to the charges??

C'mon Y2k, do your job. :)
