Hi gang, I'm BAAAAACK!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I see that you've met my housemate Ted, one of the 3 of us that keep this old farmhouse going. I want to thank each and every one of you, from the bottom of my heart, for your kind words. Yea, even you, Y2K Pro. It looks like the prayers worked, because all considered, I feel great!

They wanted to hold onto me for a few days, to make sure that my insides were OK. My left arm will be out of commission for a while, so don't expect any long-winded posts. I have a hard enough time typing with two hands! Maybe I'll try one of those "I talk, it types" programs.

I'm going to have a few scars, none in any "critical" areas. I think the only long-term effect is going to be the amount of time it takes to grow back that 2 foot pony-tail! They had to shave my head to patch it up. I'm one ugly dude with no hair!

The kid that hit me was only 23, out "partying with some friends." He visited me earlier this week. He must have said "I'm so sorry" at least a hundred times. He offered to pay any medical bills not covered by insurance, and he also offered to help replace my car. He's not a bad kid. I just hope that he learned his lesson, and that he spreads the word to his friends.

There is one thing that you folks can do for me. Please make a donation to your local blood bank.

I love you all.

Hey Sysman,

It's great to see you posting again. I'm glad you are on the mend. This is a very interesting community. It is sad when a member is out of commission. May you have a fast recovery.

Hey, it's good to hear from ya again Sysman! That is a bummer about your pony tail, sheeesh, it'll take a couple years to get a new one. If I had to type with only one hand I'd be down to about 10 wpm. Maybe that kid will spring for a voice recognition program, eh? Well, assuming you're right handed, at least you can still be a quick draw with the mouse action. Hang in there bud! :-)

-- Hawk (flyin@high.again), January 15, 2000.

Wow, Sys..I was just wondering about you today. Glad to hear you have been sprung from the joint. One Pint of O negative coming up. I read just today that the blood banks are low and I've been hoarding my blood long enough ;-) I send healing messages to your left arm.

Sysman,

Welcome home. We've all been waiting for some word on you. It's nice that the kid came to see you and apologized. It is sure to aid your recovery not having that vague resentment that victims often have.

Two foot pony tail? I never would have guessed.

As you can probably see, the board has morphed into a current events-o-rama, complete with the usual doomy bent. (Just the way we like it.)

Like all living things, your hair will grow! Take care and get well soon!!

(in your case) things will get better for a while!

Welcome back Sys,

It's good to see so many of the gang posting on this thread. I had begun to wonder where everyone went. Welcome back everyone.

Glad all you lost was your hair. Still, that is alot of hair.

-- Leslie (***@***.net), January 15, 2000.

Sysman, anytime you are in an accident and it leaves you with scars, you are entitled to a large sum of money for the kid's Insurtance Company for your pain and suffering and life long scars. This would not hurt the kid at all to go see and accident attorney. This is done all the time. Yo have really suffered and you are entitled to an award of money for it from the kid's Ins. Co. However, without an attorney you will get a very small amount. Use an attorney, and you will get top dollar and the kid's Ins. Co. will pay for your attorney! Go do it!

Welcome back - I was thinking of you about an hour ago whilst... gardening.

I'm a bit disappointed in your failing to take the forum's advice. We warned you, over and over again. The turn of the year was NOT a good time to be in hospital. But you wouldn't listen, would you? No, there you went, walking straight into a car, not even bothering to stop and think about the full consequences. Have a great recovery! ;-P

-- Y2KGardener (govegan@aloha.net), January 15, 2000.

Dear Sysman, Silver Ion is right! Wounded men *are* attractive, and can get away with alot. Also, don't worry about getting the head shaved, I can loan you one of my NRA caps with a nice long ponytail attached on the back if you want to go out on the town!

So glad you are ok, and the kind of attorney to call is a Personal Injury attorney. If you do get the dragon software so you can do what you do, keep the reciept - the ins. co should pay for that.

take care, and take your vitamins!

-- formerly (formerly@nowhere.zzz), January 15, 2000.

Looks like I came late to the party!

Regardless, so glad to see your handle again, Sysman.

(A two-foot pony tail? Not to worry. Should you decide to grow it back, it should only take you about four years. LOL! Maybe it's just time for a new "style.")

Get well soon!

:)

-- FM (vidprof@aol.com), January 15, 2000.

Sysman,

Glad you're ticking along to recovery. Sometimes a change in hairdo is in order! I'm glad the kid is repentent--not that it makes you feel any better. Nice that we have electricity so you can watch tv and stuff. FEEL LOTS BETTER!!!!

-- Mara (MaraWayne@aol.com), January 15, 2000.

Dear Sysman...glad you are back. You won't find the Y2K board at Yahoo anymore. The old one called Staring Down the Millennium Bug with over 15,500 posts is gone. Poof!...deleted.

Seems a couple of techie trolls with Debunker's mentality got in and had a frenzy...throwing crow ...everywhere. So it's gone. I do appreciate your taking on Lurkinator and Poole. On behalf of the regulars there...Thank you and a continued speedy recovery. :o)

Welcome back Sysman! Glad to hear you're recovering so quickly...hmm..now that I think about it, why out of the hospital so quickly? Weren't the nurses cute enough? Or perhaps...perhaps you made all that up just to see if anybody really cared about you? ( Just trying to be funny and paranoid in the TB2K spirit ;-) )

Now in the newer post-Y2K a bit more optimistic spirit, lets look at the silver linings coming out of your misfortune:

1- You got mangled badly, but a kid has learned his lesson (most likely...hopefully)

2- You can't type with both hands, but you're learning to be short and sweet and easier to read.

3- You went through TB2K forum withdrawal, but you've discovered just how much people admire and care about you.

4- Many hospitals will now be getting extra blood units and hopefully the Red Cross' labeling machines are all y2k compliant (I hate to waste my blood).

5- You've lost your pony-tail, but you still look like a rebel (except a fearce one with a 'tude now, scars and all.)

6- You had to force down hospital food, but you've gained a new appreciation for "real" food, even the take-out kind.

7- You have a few scars, but none in critical areas.

8- You lost your old car, but you'll get a new one (hey, why not a Harley instead to go with the new look?.)

BTW, does it still hurt when you laugh? I tried not to be too funny...

-- Chris (Catsy@pond.com), January 15, 2000.

Sysman!

Great to have you back =o)

-- Cin (Cinlooo@aol.com), January 15, 2000.

Before I hit the sack...

I would like to answer each of you, but it ain't going to happen with this one finger typing mode.

dinosaur,

The seat belt goes on before the car starts, always. I was hit on the driver's side. The "damage" is all on my left side. Lacerations were caused mostly by jagged metal. A few more MPH and I would have been in big trouble. Mark (the kid) was also smart enough to have his belt on.

Chuck,

Ted was bummed out for a few days. His CO sent him to the local shrink, not sure if it was CISD, but I will ask. He's a smart guy, and he'll be fine. He's been his usual self for the last few days.

FactFinder,

Not to worry, I'll come after you later. :)

Chris,

The ribs do hurt when I laugh, but not as bad as last week. You are forgiven.

See ya all later. What a web...

-- ALURKER (nobody@nowhere.com), January 16, 2000.

Welcome home my friend. Tis good news to hear that all is well with you and that the prayers of our TB2000 family were answered.

Please relay to Ted our collective thanks once again for letting all of us here know.

A good salve to put onto 'new' scars that are expected to last a lifetime is: make a mixture of the contents of 4 Vitamin E capsules broken into 1/8 of a cup of aloe vera extract. Spread onto injury sites every two hours for about a week. Then every four hours for 2 weeks. Finally, twice a day for a month. For 'most' people, scars should completely disappear within 6 months or less.

I also agree with the advice about taking Vitamin C. Might I also recommend taking 2 Echinachea capsules twice a day for a month. Together, these should also help you go a long way to helping restore your immune system and promote natural healing. Also may consider taking one calcium supplement a day for a month or two - to aid in the rebuilding of strong bones.

Please feel free to let us know if there is anything else that we can do! If within our ability, so shall it be!

Rev. ThunderLight

From: Y2K, ` la Carte by Dancr (pic), near Monterey, California

Maybe I'll try one of those "I talk, it types" programs.

Don't waste your money. It's a great idea, and will work someday, but at this point the technology just isn't quite there. I've looked into lots of different solutions to help my typing (since I have a rather severe arthritis that focuses on my hands). I haven't yet resorted to this, but you may want to consider a special purpose keyboard designed for one-hand use. (Maybe the sex channels on IRC could point you in the right direction ahahahah) Probably, though, since it's a temporary condition, you'll do just fine using the keyboard you have. Adjust.

Hi Sysman! How wonderful to have you back :-) About hair -- we shave our heads in the summertime sometimes, to support our chemo patients, and lately just because it's easier to not have to deal with hair when we're on a demanding job and the water pressure is a joke -- no biggie, just get a couple nice warm soft hats. Polartech fabric is very warm, light, soft, washable, non-itchy. Your hair may grow back in a slightly different color, and curlier, and the first 4 months, it's spiky and a lot of fun to comb 'n hair-dryer into weird waves ... :-) ENJOY!

If you're into experimenting with colors, use Manic Panic :-)

Sysman,

Belatedly adding my get well soon wishes to you! Just wanted to let you know, I use Dragon NaturallySpeaking Professional V.4 on a daily basis (carpal tunnel syndrome). If you have the hardware it needs (PIII, 256 RAM, SB Live! soundcard), this software is a lifesaver! I routinely achieve 98% accuracy at 160 WPM, and it's FUN! If this would help you do your job, the insurance co. should pay for the software, training, and whatever hardware you need to run it on. Best of all, you can even use it to post on TB2000!
