Anybody else hear of any unusual vehicle fires, especially semis and heavy equipment? Is anybody aware of any potential y2k (embedded?) problems that could manifest themselves in these kinds of vehicles?

Maui News: Police Believe fire started in computer on engine causing $90,000 truck fire

Note: The article on the net at the weblink below (first reported on January 13) does not have the update contained in today's (January 14) Maui News newspaper.

Today's report on the incident says:

"Kahului--A short circuit in the engine mounted computer of a heavy duty dump truck is suspected of causing a fire that destroyed the $90,000 vehicle on Thursday"

All other information in the website report is substantially the same as that reported in the newspaper report that contains the above snip.

The link takes us to an article about tofu. Is there any chance that you copied the entire truck story and could post all of it here? Thanks.

Hi Rachel,

if you use the scroll bar on the left side of the page you can access the story. I am having trouble accessing the Maui News site this morning...get a connection timed out message....

Thanks, Carl. I found the article at the site, but it makes no mention of the engine computer. Do you have a link to the article that does?
