Breaking Up is Hard to Do...See you later.

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Well gang, its been real, and its been fun, and sometimes its been real fun, and sometimes not. But Y2K is a pretty much a dud, or at least not an earth shattering event, and so I am going to make am attempt at getting on with my life, and away from here for a long, long break.

It has been a great pleasure to know most of you, and some of you..well, always interesting to be sure. Ive spent nearly two years at this site, lurking at first for a long time, then taking the plunge into the debate without looking back. Its been wild and wooly, fun, depressing, uplifting, scary, and everything in between and I will miss it, hell, I already miss it. But its not the same without the Sword of Damocles hanging over our heads, and I need to try to break out of my addiction to this place. It will not be easy, however it is time to ac-cen-tuate the positive, e-lim-inate the negative, at least for a long while. Truth is, Im feeling a bit burned out.

Ive learned a lot here, about a great deal of different things, and a good deal about myself too. I would do the same thing again if confronted with the same uncertainty and conflicting reports, and I have no regrets about the steps I took to prepare for what might have been. In fact, one of the greatest lessons learned from this entire thing is the benefits of living a more prepared lifestyle, and what a nice secure feeling it is to have food in the bank, so to speak. I am now a compulsive bargain shopper and stocker-upper.

Some folks here are under the impression that I am throwing a BITR party, and after consulting with my attorneys, I have been informed that something along those lives may be forthcoming, say in June or July of 2000? If you are interested in a trip to SE Florida during that time frame send me an Email, and I will see what the feedback is. Maybe plan a vacation to Didney Whorl and stop in at Unks too, Im just a few hours from there, and if you find me boring, you can always hit the beach.

Best wishes to you all, TTFN

One of the TB2K originals, both literally and figuratively. Best of luck always and don't be too hard on us religious fanatics. See you on the beach, I hope.

The best of the best to you Uncle!

Well miss you and your alter ego, and hope to see glimpses of him at that as yet to be planned but definately promised party. (Have a good friend in Orlando to bunk with too).

Unk,

You have furnished Bok's chat room w/ some of the cushiest verbal beanbag chairs I've ever had the pleasure to sit my mind upon.

High five,

-- silver ion (ag3@interlog.com), January 14, 2000.

Uncle Deedah,

I've heard good things about you, and I'm sorry I didn't have a chance to get to know you better, as I arrived relatively late to the forum; also, perhaps I missed some of your current posts.

Good luck to you and yours with your "new life", and thanks for being a part of this wonderful group for such a long time.

Unk:

I have very much enjoyed your participation here. Please give Mrs.Deedah our warmest regards and keep my email address should such plans actually be made.

UNK! I'd qoute that kid who stood outside the Court room waiting for Shoeless Joe Jackson, but, well, it wouldn't work.

Just see to it that YOUR clambake doesn't conflict with Paul's on the 4th of July, or I'd have to become tripplets! I'm ALREADY torn between my 25th College reunion and HIS party!

It's been an uncommon pleasure to stand back to back, steel flying midst the ravening throng, and then turn and thwap each other up side the head when needed. Guess that defines cyber-friendship.

Go gently into the future, but NOT the gathering gloom. And, watch them wet tiles!!!

First Dieter, now you, too. Actually, I feel much the same as you, but I gotta be somewhere, and I don't know anywhere else to hang my cyber hat just yet.

Uncle Deedah- I think the last time I replied to something you posted was when some of the new posters were getting on your last nerve. I asked you to stick around then, but now......? Guess it's time for only occassional lurk mode. All the best Unc, and may God bless you and keep you safe. Take Care.

Gawd! The mere fact that Unk's farewell can cause even the dreaded Mutha to de-cloak speaks volumes of how respected the name Uncle Deedah is, even to the most hideous of trolls!

Good luck, dude!

Unk-

You were one of the posters that kept me coming back many moons ago. I was sad to see you go to lurk status. It's even sadder to think of you not being here.

Thanks for your wonderful sense of humor that you shared so freely with us. Take care.

Later Unc. I'll miss the occasional butt-rippin' you'd give me. Guess I'll just hang around 'foaming at the gate' and waiting for your occasional visit!! I can't imagine who will be able to keep me in check around here now (nobody I can think of). Best of luck to you!

Farewell and success on "returning to the real world" to you and all your alter-egos, Uncle Deedah. If your departure turns out to be premature, I'm sure you'll return and you will surely be accepted here upon any return, lurking or delayed Y2K crisis.

WW

-- Wildweasel (vtmldm@epix.net), January 14, 2000.

Uncle Deedah,

Your departure is sad to many, including me. But with this sadness, we know that you are returning to your *normal* life. We will all miss you and your many personalities. Somehow, chat will just never be the same. I fondly remember some of the topics of discussion when you were in the room (big evil grin).

Here is hoping that the wind always stays in your sails, and that life takes you exactly where you wish to journey. Never again shall I think of Florida and not think of Uncle Deedah. Best wishes to both you and the Mrs.

You sure you don't want to leave even one small, unassuming personality behind? ;-)

Good luck with your TB2K "detox", Unc. I always admired people who quit cold-turkey. I have to wean myself slowly. I've enjoyed reading your wise contributions and comments all these months, and your funny ones were a welcomed relief. You must be a hoot in person ;-)

I'm so late on this thread because I was observing Bok's call for a moment of silence (got carried away).

Thanks for the grins, the good times, your serious thoughts, your interesting posts, and as silver ion so amusingly and accurately put it "the cushiest verbal beanbag chairs in Bok's room."

Best wishes to you.

-- (resolved@this.point), January 15, 2000.

Geeze Unk after all of that, do you really want to leave?

-- Mabel Dodge (cynical@me.now), January 15, 2000.

Uncle Deedah,

This afternoon after work, I was eating this baked potato, and I swear one piece of the skinned looked EXACTLY LIKE A LIZARD'S SKIN! Yowza, I almost choked. But then I thought, this is but an illusion. The potato is dead. If this were lizard's skin, it would also be dead, having been nuked in the all powerful microwave. Of course, the butter helped substantially...

-- dinosaur (dinosaur@williams-net.com), January 15, 2000.

So tell me: does lizard taste like chickeny or potatoey?

-- dinosaur (dinosaur@williams-net.com), January 15, 2000.
