We have all missed the significance of Y2K

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Even though I had decided not to spend very much time on Y2k issues anymore, my curiosity has got the better part of me tonight and I decided to drop into TB2000. Interesting reading. While I still have my preparations in place and can save or put the majority of them into good use should I choose, I really don't see Y2K causing any meaningful infrastructure problems that will impact on our lives as a whole. But, this is just my opinion. Only time will confirm the truth regarding Y2K.

What I really want to say is this. While we all know that the Y2K issue was not a hoax, consider how complex this issue is/was to work on and fix. Almost all nations needed to work together. Almost all industries on a global scale needed to work together. All political parties needed to work together. Hundreds of thousands of people needed to be directed towards solving Y2K. Millions needed to be focused, directed, placated, calmed, helped, educated, etcetera towards dealing with this problem; through all languages, all racial divides, and all economic backgrounds. To date the estimate of this cost is over $600,000,000,000. (600 billion). Since less than five percent of the population worldwide owns ninety five percent of the world wealth, it probably is fair to say that at the end of the day the wealthy (let's call them the elite) footed the bill. Why would/are the elite doing this? The answer is quite simple. Y2K was/is a perceived threat to their livelihood and well-being. Did anyone notice that the elite did this without even the slightest hiccup in the world economy?

And, to change the subject slighty, do you think that the homeless people in New York City huddled over a steam grate care if RC is right or wrong? Do you think that the homeless child living in the slum dumps of brazil care if Mr. Koskinen is a liar or a savior? Does the family living in a cardboard shack on the slopes of Tiajuana with only sugar cookies in the pantry care if Ed Yourdon is an alarmist or a beacon of truth? What about all the homeless people in Los Angeles and all of our major cities? The starving people in Africa? Mexico? Jamiaca? Central America? There is something fundamentally wrong with a world where the elite can come up with 600 billion dollars over a perceived threat to potentially solve a hugely complex problem such as Y2K, but cannot do something as simple as feed, clothe and house people who live with the very real threat of death every day. Why can't this problem be solved also?

The world is inter-connected and all creatures and material things have a part to play. The human species is no different. We have arrived on this planet naked and exposed to the world and our souls will leave the same way, with only our spirits being the wiser for the experience. And even though they have a part to play, the beauty and essence of life is not in the possessing of material things. Nor is it in the harming of another human being no matter the gender, color, intelligence, religious faith (or lack of), handicap, or economic position of that person. The greatest among us is no greater than the least among us. If you have more you have simply been given the opportunity and responsibility to do the right thing. In our hearts we all know what that is.

Yours in Truth,

On y2k - give it time. It isn't over yet - we will not hear but a fraction of real problems. Money, the bottom line rules. infomagic IMHO has called it regarding how this will develop.

The rest of your post - agree 100%. Eh Mr. Ron Tesla if you are reading this?

Follow the Golden Rule.

The Elite. They perceive now that the world is overpopulated. They sponsor the likes of Greenpeace and Save the Whales to this end. Kissinger and Cousteau and Gore are all on record regarding depopulation and Agriculture policies. They [the elite] are involved in pandemics such as Aids and they surpress medical breakthroughs, energy breakthroughs and the like. It has always been this way and will continue, in fact get worse. America is dumbed down, no question, and all Western schooling is following the US trend. Ditto the media. Newspapers - just take a look at the situation in England for the state of the art in that regard.

A few folks are waking up, the internet is helping, but we have a long long way to go.

Thanks for a great post Damon.

A final note - check out the last two or three David Icke books for more on all of this. Read the Creature From Jekyl Island. Read Captains And Kings.

Educate yourself and pass on what you've learned.

I think your statement that we have "all" missed the significance is a sweeping generalization, perhaps applicable to most of the Pollys, but not all of us. People like Flint are missing the point when they insist on accusing Ed Yourdon of being "wrong" for doing the "right" thing.

The goal was not to make predictions, it was about warning people. In order for the true goal to be achieved, it would be best if the so-called "predictions" did not become a reality. In other words, because people listened and heeded the warnings, the disasters described in the Ed's book did not occur. By spreading the message as effectively as we did, we essentially altered the future.

Just one comment on something you mentioned...

"it probably is fair to say that at the end of the day the wealthy (let's call them the elite) footed the bill."

I think you are giving the "elite" more credit than they deserve. A lot of non-wealthy taxpayers and consumers are paying for the costs of Y2K, even if they will never benefit from the systems that were repaired.

I like the rest of your ideas, and hope that someday soon all of humanity will reach that level of awareness.

Im tired of all the pollies talking trash about people who warned about upcoming y2k problems. you dont get mad at the weather service when they issue a tornado warning and you house doesnt blow away. you are grateful that your house is still there and that you had a warning to prepare just in case. everyone was giving EVERY side of a story that NOONE could actually predict what EXACTLY was going to happen. its clear that there have been many glitches, some major and there will no doubt be more. what i dont understand is why they "GET OFF", downplaying all these y2k events.

I belive your point here to be correct. However, I can see no evidence that this was done. In many organizations, Y2K was a backburner issue until almost the end. We may still have some surprises.

If you run Y2k websites just look at the traffic to see the dedication of the workforce resolving the problem. Traffic was @ all time high from dec. 27 to jan. 4 after and before that it was relatively quite. So tell me about the elite and other conspiracies ...

hzlz,

You can ignore the fact that "they" exist.

They laugh at people like you - they *train* people like you from the cradle to the grave. Very successfully too.

Read up on some Cousteau or Prince Charles/Phillip or Kissinger or Rothschild quotes.

The reason my dear sir, that we cannot feed the world is that I am not going to work my ass off to feed the lazy, the stupid, the crackheads, the primative. It is the same law of nature that prevents you communist from succeeding anywhere you try it. Let them work, learn or die.

Everybody seems to forget, MONEY, WEALTH, RICHES,rule the world, when riches are in danger, then riches are used to insure their safety. The ordinary citizens, the dredges of society, and humanity in general are very expendable when the riches are endangered. There is not thought or care given to the peoples of the world. All that is of high priority are the riches and the elite. That is why wars are fougt and lost. That was the reason for America, to cuddle and protect the upper classes and the rich. This is a fine art now and the very elite sit on top of the world and control all the moves. To them they prefer that some of the dredges of humanity such as you and I be eliminated. Wars are managed for that purpose. However, this Y2K thing was a real danger, whether real or imagined, and unlimited gold was released to ensure the safety of their assets. If you happen to be in the way, you are history.

What None said ....(Thanks none, for saving me a lot of typing...and well put)

I agree with the comment that the world had to work together. I also find it interesting the the NWO people haven't picked up on this in the media and made case for their one world gov.(Any body have and idea about this). But you are assuming that we are doing nothing to help people. Well I for one contribute to the poor at about 6 times what I spent on y2k preps for me and my family and yet I don't see much improvement for them. But I do see the good lord blessing me for my commitment. So what is wrong with this picture?

"And, to change the subject slighty, do you think that the homeless people in New York City huddled over a steam grate care if RC is right or wrong? "

No one could care more! Granted the name "RC" is irrelevant. But if RC's predictions come into fruition, then these weaker fringe populations obviously will be hardest hit.

Notforlong,

You took the words right off my fingers!

How naive is the bleat of, "...why can't we all just get along?"
