An E-Mail about Italy

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I just received the following e-mail from the U.K. "In a recent BBC programme (Watchdog?), Gwynneth Flower (Action 2000) quoted that Italy was the '4th highest spending country in Year 2000 preparations' and practically laughed off the suggestion that Italy had indeed done little."

I assume this means the 4th highest spending country in Europe, which would seem about right considering the size of their economy, if they were in fact remediating at something like the average rate.

The mystery remains: Why O' why were we ever worried?

The head of Italy's y2k remediation committee issued soothing statements like, "They're going to crucify us." and then ran screaming from the room.

Dale "We will burn in Hell" Way says, "I was never worried; not really."

Perhaps the large private companies got most of the work done on time. Maybe it was the govrnment that was lagging and we will hear more about their problems in the coming weeks.
