Hi MIke-- I haven't caught the updates, but, the Goodyear plant (on 225 2 610) and Bay Area Blvd are a LONG way apart...are there TWO events?

Good luck and best wishes to you and yours.

I hope you are able to continue posting updates.

Two chemicals that don't play nicely together were accidentally mixed in a holding tank.  One of the chemicals was methyl acolate(sp?) (main ingredient in Plexiglas).  A third chemical was added to cool the other two down.  Still waiting to see if everything is ok when the circulating pump kicks on.  Fear is that the pump will cause things to heat up again and an explosion could result.  News radio didn't say why they just don't keep the pump turned off or how the chemicals got accidentally mixed together.  A major street in the area, Bay Area Blvd has been closed since 3pm, it's now 10.

TV 13 reports problem at Goodyear plant in LaPorte (east side of Houston right on Galveston Bay) when two chemicals were mixed improperly in a vessel...causing high temps...stabilizer added over the evening...(now 10pm CST) good news...it will lower the temp in the pressure vessel...bad news...it could cause an explosion! looks to be under control...no info as to cause...company spokesman said it "got in the wrong tank"...

so, what happened? Is the area still under emergency measures? Nothing in Houston Chronicle online yet. How frequently do you have these types of emergency situations?
