Aspen Aiport Update - FWIW

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I contacted our worthless local Glenwood paper and they said they would assign it to somebody. I called the Aspen paper and they mentioned they heard about it, that's it and I called the Aspen airport administration which was pointless because "they're in meetings!". I tried the Aspen Airport/Sardy Field website; out of order. I feel like I'm trying to crack open top secret information.

No wonder a small percentage of the incidents get reported! It all depends on what the media decides it wants to parade in front of us.

Meanwhile the headlines are saturated with the 6 year old Cuban Boy.

What's all this then?

Referring, of course, to Aspen)

John, Guy reported last night/yesterday re: power outages at the airport where several family members work....board members requested that he follow up and attempt to get more information today. He did that...thanks Guy.

The thing to do is contact the local FAA flight service, where pilots get weather info and flight plans are filed. Try one at a small, local airfield. If the lights went out on the runway yesterday, they'll know. If you have a tail number they will give you any information you ask for, such as what problems are being experienced in other airports.

If you have any freinds who are private pilots, ask them to call. It should be easy to get confirmation this way.

Thanks for the post of your progress Guy. Can I presume the runway lights are back on?
