greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Hmmmm... are those dern embedded chips acting up after all? By the way, I had a "millennium bug" chocolate candy tonight that an office mate ordered, and whew... Y2K may not have been an apocalypse, but it sure is tasty...

Can you tell that, after more than a year of trying to get my mind around this Y2K thing, I'm feeling, shall we say, a bit punchy? I bet I'm not the only one... -s- -- [quoted for I-laughed-so-hard-I-scared-my-cat purposes only]

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - About half a human brain was found in a sewage-treatment plant, but authorities have no idea how it got there. "It is very perplexing to find a human brain in the sewer system," Northampton County Coroner Zachary Lysek said Monday. A plant worker cleaning a catch tray found the brain at the Bethlehem city treatment facility, which serves 13 municipalities. The brain was found Friday, but it took a while for authorities to determine that it was from a human. "It was only in the sewer system for a very short period of time," Lysek said. Lysek said the section of brain was nearly intact and was too large to be poured down a normal drain. He said it might have been flushed down a toilet. It was not immediately clear whether the brain had been used for medical purposes or if it was part of a homicide. "At the very least, the person who did this can be charged with the improper disposal of medical waste," Lysek said. The Coroner's Office is responsible for figuring out whose brain it was. "It is a very complicated process. Primarily we will rely on DNA tests, but it is going to be very difficult to determine who it belongs to," Lysek said. He said authorities might never find out.

Reminiscent of the classic scene in Young Frankenstein where I- gor (Marty Feldman) grabs the brain belonging to "Abbey" Normal.

Sweet dreams, Bethlehem!

C'mon guys, at least subreference from movies I've seen... my Mel Brooks experience doesn't get much past _Blazing Saddles_ and "Do ya care if it falls?" "What"? "The Roman Empire?" "F#$& it."

Strange? yes...but not as strange as the theft of JFK's brain. I have never understood why that hasn't been as fascinating to others as it has to me!

Does LadyLogic live in Philly?

Kelly, that's because JFK's brain is so "last century"... this is the new millennium, the era of the common man's brain... the Everybrain, if you will... -s-

Scott: Young Frankenstein is perhaps the best work Brooks has done. If you're familiar with the original movie, go rent it. If not, rent both and watch them back-to-back.

It's a sign! Clutter clear your brains... the beginning is near!

Or not.

Mr. Lysek,

I think we might be able to help you find the person who lost that half brain. You see, there's this girl that has been posting on our forum named "Ladyogic", and I think I recall her saying she visited that plant a while ago... shortly afterwards she started spamming uncontrollably and acting quite strange.

Looks like a case for homicide. REDRUM via stormdrain, street gutter or cleanout of someone's house hold plumbing. A douce with the hose to help it along.

Here's one sentence from one review of Young Frankensteing: "Mel Brooks' finest film, and arguably the best comedy ever made".

Don't just take my word for it. It's dynamite. The original The Bride of Frankenstein is a definite prerequisite, as well. What a great triple feature!!

We now return you to your normally scheduled program...

Young Frankenstein is a film that lovingly recreates the atmosphere of the 1930s Universal Frankenstein movies, while at the same time, skewering the horror genre with Marx Brothers like precision...

See it. You'll thank me.

-- Dancr (addy.available@my.webpage), January 13, 2000.

It has long been stated that if our representatives in Congress had "half a brain," we might get some intelligent legislation out of them. I, for one, am in favor of drafting the brain into the service of its country and sending it on to Congress.

I have been informed, however, that the Democratic party is vying for control of the brain with an eye toward donating it to AlGore. It was decided against giving it to Mr. Clinton as it was feared that he would only stuff it down the front of his pants.

Just a thought....

Ladylogic happens to be very intelligent. A lot more so than some of the mentally challenged I've seen around here.

The fact that all of her posts are deleted when this garbage is allowed to stay is just beyond me. (shakes head in disgust)

brain drain: at the end of "The MAtrix", Neo finally understood -- "balls to bones", as the oracle put it -- that he was "The One" and that anything that happened in the matrix was only the illusions of a computer simulation. Once he realized those two things, he was "able to remake the Matrix as he saw fit" and defeat the Agents. That's purty much it... of course, it took repeated viewings on DVD to get to that point... :) -s-

-- Scott Johnson (scojo@yahoo.com), January 14, 2000.

Thanks Scott! Saw those gross machines destroying the rebel ship, never saw Neo get back to the ship to save his friends even tho they were calling out to him; his body was still in the chair on the ship ... hhmmm he had realized his powers but did he ever get back to his body? [Saw movie once on a small screen] :-)

-- brain drain (allaha@earthlink.net), January 14, 2000.

i saw the Matrix too and that scene where the boys in Columbine got their ideas but it was not the focus of the movie
why is the movie so popular it was bleak
