A look at the rebate check mix-up

I've had a problem with this bank. Last year I was billed twice for my safety deposit box, once in May and again in December. My normal billing cycle is June 1 thru May 31. Both billings had under 'date due' 'upon receipt'.

A look at the rebate check mix-up

By The Associated Press / Statewire

With AM-WI--Rebate Mix-up<

WHAT WENT WRONG AND WHERE:

A printing error by Norwest Bank, which mailed 2.5 million rebate checks, sent about 7, 500 checks to the wrong addresses in several communities.

The mistake affected communities located in ZIP codes with a 544 prefix, including Athens, Bowler, Colby, Custer, Elcho, Marathon City and Marshfield.

WHAT TAXPAYERS SHOULD DO IF THEY GOT THE WRONG CHECK:

Taxpayers who received the wrong checks will receive a letter containing an apology, a gift and a postage-paid envelope to send the checks back to the state.

Checks mailed back to the state will then be sent to their rightful owners.

People in the affected communities may exchange checks among themselves if they receive the wrong post card.

The state hopes to have all of the checks sent back to their rightful owners by the end of the month.

Residents who don' t receive their rebate checks by then are urged to call the state Department of Revenue' s rebate hotline, 1-877-973-2283.
