**UPDATE: Time Bomb 2000 forum, AOL, experiencing email problems?? (Patrick Lastella, Lastella1@aol.com, 2000-01-10) --continuation of my previous post

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Here is an update......

Now, not only have I received phantom emails FROM myself ADDRESSED to myself with the same information contained in the postings (responses) I made to OTHERS' questions, but now OTHERS are receiving emails from me of MY RESPONSES made to forum questions that THEY made.

AND, now OTHERS are unknowingly sending ME emails simply by posting a response to MY questions on the forum. What do I mean?: people have answered my "emails" to themselves that I never sent. I was merely posting a response to their question/ head leader when somehow it triggered it to be sent to them also as an email. And now, they TOO are unknowingly emailing ME, when merely responding to my posts.

But it doesn't stop there. I was receiving emails last night in response to my post about Y2000 forum, AOL email errors BEFORE it even showed up on MY screen. I got some emails in response to the question/ post I made, but I couldn't find it anywhere. That was bizarre. Plus, like I said, these people WEREN'T intentionally sending me an email; but just responding to my question.

And, when I try to return to the Y2000 forum main page, I many times am reverted to the AOL "welcome" window, and then to the AOL "search" window. And yet other times, when I return to the forum, the read postings are in blue as if never previously read. Then when I return again, they are in light brown/ copper color once again -- meaning, of course, that I already accessed and read that posting. So if you received an email from myself, it was just a rogue, altruistic robot with misplaced intentions that sent it. Not I.

---truly bizarr-o world. Well, try switching browsers, just use your acct with aol to get online, then switch to knucklescrapper or internetx-ploder, or maybe even another type browser, opera, maybe? Let it ride for awhile till aol sorts it out, tell your buds to use some web addy you can get.

Yes, a rogue, altruistic robot with a SPAM deathwish!

I was having problems posting replies and earlier could not log on. I defragged and now I'm OK.

Patrick:

I am using aol [Mac; imbedded IE 4.01] and have none of those problems. Must be something isolated.

Best wishes,,,

OK

When you post a new thread, look closely at the dialogue box. There is a place that is checked "yes" (by default) to notify you of responses via e-mail. If you don't want the notification by e-mail, simply check the box "no". It's that simple. =0)

And one more thing I forgot...The mail errors occur when someone posts a response with an invalid e-mail address.

I posted a reply too soon. I have also a post from myself that I didn't send.

Yes, it's happening all over the internet!

They're everywhere!

Theeeeeeeeyyyyyyyy''''rrrrrrrreeeeeee eeeeeeevvvvvvveeeeerrrreeeeeyyyyyyyywwwwwwhhhhheeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

I got those, too. Two that were MY responses to questions

I had no idea what they were or why I got them. I'm not really familiar with this robot thing people are talking about. But I don't think I have an email alert option to check anywhere I can see.

I guess it's the fake address echo-chamber effect....i have no idea what that is... :-}

When you respond to TB2000 read the message and you will see that there is a place to check yes or no for email response. Check no and this won't happen. I had all these same problems long before Jan 1 simply because I did not understand how to use the forum. READ!
