Gophers

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I have gophers. I don't want to use poison peanuts because of grandchildren and four-legged critters I want (like the family dog).

Is anyone aware of a tool that I put in the gopher mound to drop a poison pellet in the gopher tunnel without having to dig more holes in my lawn, garden and orchard?

Thank you, in advance.

After 12 years in landscape feild i can say the only thing i found that worked well is a box trap, they are sold at garden stores and some hardware stores and are a green box with a spring trap at one end. You dig into one of the main holes put in trap[wear gloves so they dont pick up your sent] set spring and cover all of trap except front by sprig with dirt, they come along feel air, rush to trap to cover space up front and are killed instantly.

The one tool I've found to be most effective in gopher control is the good old .22 rifle, or a pellet gun. It takes a little time, but you can get results. And you know right away how much success your efforts are yielding! Beats poison any day. They are cagey little critters, so prepare yourself for some strategic maneuvers!
