OK, I will expose a glitch even though I am a polly

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I swore that I would be up front and honest even though I am still a Polly. Didn't get my bill from my technology leasing company this month. E-mailed this a.m. and got a faxed bill which shows the date of the bill 1/10/00. I did get a note saying that they were having problems with the compnany that does their invoicing. Looks like they didn't make it! It was easily obtained and rectified however.

OK, there you have it. An unexpected post from a Polly.

Thanks, David.

David,

I'm confused. Wouldn't a date of 1/10/00 be the correct date, assuming the "00" is being read by the software as 2000? Did they actually say the problem was with the date or is the invoicing company just have other problems?

Jim: That is correct, that is the correct date but every other statement, etc. that I have seen since the rollover has been 01/01 etc./2000 until I saw this. I have written back and asked them to tell me if it was y2K. Just don't know. Again, I am hardly a doomer and think this whole thing is a bunch of hype but I swore to someone that at the first sign of any problems I saw personally, I would post it. So, there it is!

Hey vindicated...settle down. Thanks for the post David. =)

Wow. Thanks Doomer Org! Always nice to have the Union sticking up for us little guys in the trenches.

OK Vindicated, that is it! I tried to approach the subject with a little intelligence and respect and see what I get for my efforts! Childshness!

That is what is giving you folks a bad name, you react with your Id (assuming you know what that is) instead of your intellect!

Believe me, now I will be become much more vigorous at exposing the great cons of the century such as North, Yourdon et. al

Thanks for the inspiration!

be nice vindicated. i bet YOU are a polly yourself. i will be glad when this antagonism between pollies and doomers ends. thanks david.

I suspect "vindicated" is actually a troll. Don't take him/her/it seriously.

-- Steve Heller (stheller@koyote.com), January 10, 2000.

David; You are absolutly correct. Thank you for the post. Ignore the troll. It does seem that the 00 would be correct. There is no way to tell if the invoicing company is having CDC issues unless they say they so themselves. There will be a lot of this.

-- Michael Erskine (Osiris@urbanna.net), January 10, 2000.

Your probably right Steve. SOrry for the outburst. I just am trying to have a meaningful discussion on this stuff.

Vindicated's IP matches up with a certain polly's other posts, therefore, this one was considered fair game for deletion.

I'll do the same. I'm a definite polly. Here's one I noticed a week ago.

When I clicked over to the Celtics game, the lights at the fleetcenter were out for 21 minutes. I remembered that I noticed a weird flicker (less than 1/2 a second) of my lights that *may* have occured at the same time (i tuned in to the game about 15 minutes into the delay). Later they said their was a some sort of power issue (don't remember if it was surge or dip) that caused the lights to trigger off; the 21 minute delay was required for the hot lights to cool down before being restarted.

it was odd, never referred to as a y2k related outage. But I am willing to concede that it might have been. Other than that, in 10 days of going about my business, nothing unusual (and you can certainly bet that my bills have been arriving).
