MSNBC problem

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I have no idea what is causing this, but I was just watching NBC on TV and they lost their sound. It has been off for at least 15 minutes now and the sound has been replaced by what sounds like shortwave with a Moris code type signal. I called my Primestar cust service & they are getting the same thing - so it's not just local interference. Anybody know what's up? I'm just curious. PS - just checked again & the code type signal is gone & the sound is just dead.

Carolyn, I find it interesting that you report this. For the last week I have noticed unusual TV blips and such. In fact, Channel 15 which shows infomercials here, has been messed up since rollover. Called the cable company and they said they weren't aware of any problems. Figured it was just from all the computer tests and such, but we had the sound go out on a channel also...can't remember which one, but it got restored pretty quickly. Curious if anybody else has noticed this. BTW our TV is only a year old. =)

They'd better not mess up the season premiere of NYPD Blue or I will up my prediction of TEOTWAWKI.

Carolyn,

It sounds like the Primestar satellite downlink is having problems. I have Dish Network and MSNBC is coming in fine. I have noted occasional sound and picture interuptions with Dish in the year I've had the system. Must be those darn squirrels.

I have DISH Network and my entire system is 'locked' into their "Inside DISH Network News" program and has been since about 10am. I'm unable to change the channel or shut the darn thing off. Finally just unplugged it. I've made numerous attempts to contact them by phone with no luck so far.

We have dish network. Ever since a week ago the sound and picture have been almost a full second out of sync.

About the only disappointment I have over Y2K not being a disaster is that TV in all its insidious forms is still with us. SOme Luddite cultural impulse in me longs for a return to the culture of the spoken and written word.
