Can someone explain this. Electric Power Transformer being run with generators.

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

My son is a sellsman here in West texas his route includes the Lubbock, Texas area, on his way to Lubbock, Tx (outside the small town of Sundown, TX pop. about 1700) he saw I guess you call them a Transformer or Power station(small one)it had about a dozen military camouflaged painted generators hooked up to it and all running. No, I don't think there is any kind of conspiracy going on here just wondering why it would be connect like that, and if there are others. I don't care how they keep the lights on just as long as they keep them on. Anyone know anything...

Generators at a substation means power is off upline. It may not mean anything but routine stuff, no lineman wants to work on live high voltage equipment.

Military generators? Routine stuff?

Huh?

-- Ron Schwarz (rs@clubvb.com.delete.this), January 09, 2000.

You saw the camouflaged generators??

Uh-oh. Why do you think they camouflage them? You're not supposed to see those, and you're definitely not supposed to tell anyone where you saw them.

Can you say... "Get the hell out of Dodge," quickly five times? Well don't bother trying to say it, because you don't have that much time, just do it!

Got bugout? :-)

Maybe camouflage is the only "color" they come in, if they werebeing "hidden", thrust me, you would not have seen them.

Generators (power carts) and pneumatic (air carts) are commonly used in the military, especially on the flight line. There is noting sinister about their existance, they have been around forever, you just never noticed them before.

One thing that you see all the time but probably never noticed is that there is a "metal box" of one form or another at every single corner where there is a street light. (at least here in Seattle) Look for them next time you are driving around, you won't be able to NOT notice them now that they have been brought to your attention.

Anyone in Seattle (not sure of other places) ever notice that there are single blue "reflectors" in what appears to be random placement in the middle of streets. Look for them, they are there, but have you ever noticed them before?

-- Cherri (sams@brigadoon.com), January 09, 2000.

The silver boxes are the controllers for the intersection traffic lights...I've installed them.

The blue reflectors you see in the road are fire hydrant markers for the fire dept.

Look toward the curb...you'll see a fire hydrant close by.

We were going to buy a generator until we discovered that 'camouflage' was the only color scheme left in stock. (WTH?)

You people need to take a break. Thanks for posting Marli. Very curious.

Will, you're not serious are you? I like camouflage, I would have bought it! :-)

BTW, I was kidding about Marli being in trouble for seeing them, but I guess Cherri has no sense of humor cuz she didn't figure that out.

They were probably on loan from the military, much like the air traffic control system being loaned by the marines to Palm Springs International Airport. (martial law gradually moving in? uh-oh!)

Thanks everyone for your input. I guess no one else has seen any others like this, if there had been others I think there might have been some cause concern, must be just routine repairs. My son will be back in that area this Friday, he is going to see if it is still running on the same setup. It is just hard for me to believe that we came through all this without a hitch. I really am Trying not to chase straws...

Forrest

"Generators at a substation means power is off upline."

I agree with Forrest. The generators are being stepped-up for local distribution. Marli, did you see any suspicious squirrels running around?

-- PA Engineer (PA Engineer@longtimelurker.com), January 09, 2000.

Watch out for squirrels riding around in small white busses with "NATO" printed on the side. They are plotting to take over the world.

-- Hawk (flyin@high.again), January 09, 2000.

Now as smart as that squirrel is don't you think he will be camouflaged.

-- Marli (can'tget@it.duh), January 09, 2000.

You're right aboutthe squirrels this weekend. One took out the power to the local grocery store and another took out a transformer at the bank. Shut down most of the commerce in our little town.

Dang that Squirrel King and his minions! I'll bet them furry little terrorist wear blue berets, too.

Marli

Your right. I should have known.... Have you seen any camouflaged acorns around?

-- PA Engineer (PA Engineer@longtimelurker.com), January 09, 2000.

Heck! I'm more worried about the commando groundhogs he's commandeered, never know how much damage they could do to the fiberoptic cables underground... (Only nice thing about that is they can't get the UN buses down there to move the troops about, gotta use the ol' "shoe-leather express".

Got groundnuts, anybody?

Gawd, the hobby store down the street sold out of ALL their mylar balloons! Glad we're holding on to our TP.

Interesting observation.

-- Hokie (Hokie_@hotmail.com), January 09, 2000.

I have seen them too but they were white. In the Northwest area. Have been an inside wireman for nearly 20 years and aped substations and powerstations during all country drives as they are interesting to me, although I have never worked on them. Have never seen any hook-up like this before without the presence of active, ongoing work to repair/replace malfunctions. The fact that they sit for days, unattended, is odd.

-- Industrial Sparky (renipower99@yahoo.com), January 10, 2000.

Sparky,

I don't want to mislead anyone. My son only travels that area once a week, and at the time he was by there he didn't see anyone, but they could have been on break or gone to lunch. But he did hear them running. They were really loud. He won't be back that way until this Friday, I will ask him to stop and see if he can see anyone.

-- Marli (can'tget@it.duh), January 10, 2000.

Sorry about that last post. I'm heavly medicated. Chemtrail Flu, you know.... The generators are what were running loudly not people. failed English Lt 101 what can I say..
