Salutations and So Long from a Troller

Dear TB2000ers:

I first became aware of y2k on this forum in March of 1998 and have followed it ever since. I always told myself to remember how I found this board before I made any life-changing decisions (found a link in OKC Bombing conspiracy reading). The Board went from a discussion/debate forum to a doomer haven over the years, but that's ok.

I think we are smack in the middle of the bump in the road and I am going to transfer my internet addiction to some other less-thought provoking site. Want to say thanks to Admin for their good work. Thanks to the long-time posters that have been around for those years (Paul Neuhardt, Bardou, Uncle Deedah to name a few) and have issued sage comments about many topics. I was always considered a Polly on this board. In real life, my friends and fellow IS folks thought I was a Chicken Little. I think I was aware of the situation but not obsessed with preparing for every possible scenario.

My parting comment smacks of Rodney King. Doomers quit scouring the news looking for some failure or mistake that will make you correct. Systems are going to have problems related to y2k. But, the last time I checked, the lights are still on and my toilet still flushes. Doomers always said, "I hope I'm wrong" and it looks like you got your wish. Pollies, quit rubbing it in their faces - although that is hard to do as I was treated as an idiot who didn't understand thte complexity of the situation by some of the ruder doomers (the source of the recent Polly aggression). Cautious optimism and congratulations should be the prevailing feeling, not Told you so. I am grateful to this forum and to Ed for making me aware that there was a potential problem and making me aware that I could take steps to prepare. I didn't take many, but I made that decision fully aware of the potential fallout of my inaction. To people that say y2k was a hoax: shut up. A lot of hard work took place and a lot of technology was updated that would not have been but not for the 1/1/00 deadline. That being said, you Sightings/Parascope folks should go away with your chemtrails and other "curious" observations.

My Y2K Report: My tribal health care group composed of a small hospital, 3 clinics, 3 programs and a large administrative group has not had any problems that we have identified as y2k issues. The IHS did wonderful y2k work and they should be applauded. They remediated our national medical package and all of our biomeds. We dealt with all of the local computer and networking issues including some 486/33 machines that are still telneting their little motherboards out. Our OLD Unix box with AIX and Informix came through with no problems whatsoever and our BDC Pentium 100 is doing one-armed pushups like Jack Palance. New Year's Eve I was almost overcome like a father with a brand new baby when everything worked. I was almost as elated Monday morning when the Unix box booted up smoothly.

Thanks to all. The e-mail address is actually real as I welcome correspondence, but I didn't think I should post my .gov address (maybe that's why I was called a gubmit shill). Now I can spend more time fixating myself on my beloved Oklahoma Sooners, the Dallas Cowboys, my golf game and my two angels (not in that order).

Boomer Sooner and God Bless.

Bret

Why would anyone fixate on the Dallas Cowboys??? eeee gads :)

Packer Fan Even though they had a rotten season.

Good luck.

Caio, Bret. All the best to you.

If all the other postings here were as calm, reasonable & intelligent as yours, this board would have been far less entertaining.

I'd SOONER be in Waynoka. Thanks for a good post.

Bye Bret. Sorry to see you go, we'll miss you. Go Maple Leafs!

-- justme (justme@myhouse.com), January 08, 2000.

Cowboys are coming to town to play my Vikes tomorrow, Brett. We're *still* pissed about that Drew Pearson push-off in 1975. Boys are going down.

-- Bemused (and_amazed@you.people), January 08, 2000.

Gosh, because of that push off, the Cowboys went on to win four more Super Bowls.

Anyone wasting their precious time off from work watching football is truly pathetic. I guess most Americans are pathetic. Beer drinking, vicarious loosers who can't think and act for themselves. It amazes me how people choose to continue being trained and leashed by the "big societal machine" and continue to follow this path. Make something of yourselves. You will always be just another number until you do.

Class act Bret; best wishes. Go Colts!

-- Lars (lars@indy.net), January 08, 2000.

don't wait; It only takes ONE flatulant a** to make a room smell bad.

-- Michael Erskine (Osiris@urbanna.net), January 08, 2000.

"Don't Wait" makes a good point (inadevertently, I'm assuming) - everyone has something they do, that someone else will think is a totally stupid thing to do.

And the world spins round and round and round......

Now you tell me! Got rid of my Unix box two years ago to "upgrade to a completely compliant network". Oh well. All the best Bret, and God Bless you and your two angels.
