18 Nuke shutdowns in 23 days......

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

http://www.nrc.gov/NRR/DAILY/drlist.htm

From May 5, 1999 to May 27, 1999, there were 23 nuke shutdowns, including:

Three on 5/14...

One every day 4 days in a row, 5/5 to 5/8

At least one every day 4 days in a row, 5/13-5/16

A total of seven in 4 days, 5/13-5/16

Four more every day on consecutive days, 5/18-5/21.

The basic effect of this is to make me a LOT more scared of blowing my prediction simply because of a run of bad luck :-)

But I'll stand behind it.

And just a question: People have asserted to me that this board spent EXACTLY as much time posting glitches pre-y2k than post-y2k...

So if I plow through the archives will I find postings listing the mounting day-by-day shutdowns in May 1999?

Hey John get a life. You're post shows exactly what were saying. Last spring was one of the deadlines for Y2K testing. Let me give you a bit of advice..take your Polly-FACE CRAP and sell it to the Disney Channel

John:

IF someone was watching them.

We didn't have a "bulldog" (compliment, btw) like you with their teeth in this particular issue, at that time.

At least my memory says so.

So John is an idiot becuase he's posting factual information from the NRC database? Does the idea that there were plant shutdowns that occured before 2000 in the same or larger numbers than what's occuring now upset your fantasy? If you have facts to refute the posting, go right ahead.

John strikes me as the sort of guy who'd make an excellent door to door vacuum cleaner salesman.

"No, I *insist* that you let me dump this dirt on your floor to show you how well my product sucks!"

He's here, he's there, he's in your face, and he won't take FOAD for an answer!

In fact, I'm beginning to think his *real* last name is "Kirby"!

Dear John, I would feel better hearing about the Nuke shutdown stats outside of 99. It seems like in 99 there was so much remediation and testing being done that we cannot use that year as a baseline. I appreciate this kind of info but I want a true perspective.

Good point Mom. Some of these nukes weren't by any chance shut down while working to meet compliance deadlines of June 1, 1999 or anything like that were they? I'm sure its in that old database somewhere.

John,

Those shutdowns were planned (ie scheduled in advance) shutdowns. They were for upgrades. Check the power company press releases.

John,

Based on your email address, I can only surmise that you have so much time to analyze the NRC data due to the fact that the computers at your license branch are down, but "not due to a Y2K problem"...

Yeah dildo, (I mean John)

Your so good with numbers why don't you go to the CSB database and compare total incident numbers from 98 to 99.

I think you'll find 99 was a particularly bad year. Or maybe 98 was just a good year? There were about 160 or so incidents in 98 and around 400 in 99. That's an increase of 250%. F*ck you. Get a life. If you thinks it's so godamn safe, why not get out there by the nuke fence and commune with the control rods? Loser.

Hokie. Simply wrong.

If the utilities were claiming these were planned shutdowns they were, well, actually simply lying like all the doomers claimed they were :-)

And as I side note I found there wasn't a SINGLE mention in the TB2000 archives about US nuke shutdowns in May 1999...people were simply discussing compliance reports, predictions of failures, etc. Found a post in early June talking about power shortages in Massachusetts, partially due to their nukes being shut down for maintenance, closest I could find.

They're all like that, I won't post ALL of them. They don't seem very planned to me. Full of words like "SCRAM" and "UNEXPECTED".

Roland...note the "com"...Think many states have privately-run DMVs?

I have a particularly moronic ISP, "De-Mar-Va Online!". Geniuses came up with that domain name and literally hundreds of people have assumed that I work for the DMV (which my state doesn't even have, it's the "MVA".)

Roland,

I've had people privately e-mail me after postings on USENET, etc. asking for advice on vehicle registration problems, etc.

I have excellent irony/sarcasm dectectors..but I've had dozens and dozens of people seriously believe I work at the DMV :-)
