Yes...I am part of a remediation team at work. My responsibility was for laboratory testing equipment. We shut everything down over the roll-over and then started up on 1-04-2000. Two instruments started and ran fine until this morning but shut down and crashed within hours of each other (both were same make and model) The system was run using an old 086 8bit processor. Attempts at reloading firmware failed. Vendor claimed compliance. y2k issue...without a doubt.

No...all three of my systems are Y2K-OK...

Most definitely yes. Let's just say one of my clients has gone through a sort of "time warp." They are still able to conduct business in the year 1900, but the company responsible for the remediation is not being very responsive about bringing them "up to date." I think we're going to see a lot of lawsuits. Also heard of first hand reports from several acquaintences about inability to use card-type payment systems.

Turned on a PC out in the lab for the 1st time this year and its date was 1980. Set the date using the DOS function and everything was OK.

FWIW...no, but read about one. Mercer County in Pa. is unable to enter deed transfers and the like into the computer they use for this. They said the pute can't recognize the 2000 date. They said this pute was not "mission critical" so it wasn't remediated yet. They expect to have it remediated soon and will enter data later.

Didn't do thing one to remediate my P166/Win95 set. (I really want one of the new Macs, you see.) So far nothing has died -- WordPerfect 8 runs fine, no system problems (other than the occasional lockup I've gotten used to over the last 2 years). Eudora Lite couldn't recognize an attachment in WFW format yesterday -- that may just be Eudora Lite's limitation, it never saw one before so I have no referent.

What did happen was on the switch to Standard Time last fall. The clock "fell back" an hour on the hour for 3 successive hours, starting at midnight. Then it settled down. I reset it and have had no problems since. Go figure.

Did not get patches for 95 windows just to see if I would have problems. Folks, my bios is good, 95 windows has lots of gliches strange gliches, mail, memory, just about all any error that is not an error shows up. So anyboby who said there was no proplem is an nut.

yes..

My microwave started emitting smoke and sparks right before Christmas. Could be a Y2K problem (read embedded chip), or it could be an old Microwave (about 7 years old). Find out when it's repaired.

Phread,

Need to tell the kids not to put the tinsel in the microwave so they can watch the pretty lights.

Answer.. Yes. I can say now that my real name is Bill Lamoreux. I am a programmer for the United States Postal Service, and I work at the integrated business systems solution center in Pa. As you have read, the postal service had two Y2K bugs which made it to the news in the critical systems. We own one of them.. the one which reports on mail volumes. IMHO this one has been handled. We manned our warrooms 24/7 and worked on this problem for years. Everyone here did a fine job and I am glad none of the bad things that could have happened, happened. In retrospect I think that a lot of things are happening around the country and the world that are Y2K anomalies, but the failure rate (because of the remediation) has not exceeded the available resources to fix the problem. Since no loss of life appears to be directly attributable to Y2K, and because the problem was reduced to a managable level, Y2k will go down in the books as a 1.5 on the IS richter scale. Only slightly more than a BITR. But some guys say this was never a problem, to this I disagree becuase I remember working one time 23 days straight without a break (getting paid double time!! :) during the remediation (which was at least two years in progress). I for one was worried, concieving the possibilities. I am glad its over and glad my position was middle of the road because I am only out a couple of bills on my preps. Time to get on with life. Good luck to you all.. Slammer

Have we heard from Y2KPro whether or not the french fry machines at Burger King made it through rollover ok? The ones with my lunch today were awfully under-done.
