Just left convenience store~are manual right now~

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

This morning I went to a local convenience store. Their registers wouldn't do anything but open and they were having to write everything down. They were looking into what to do about it. Said they don't understand it at all. I asked, Y2k? The owner said "could be" with a disgusted look on her face.

My question to you all, could it be y2k or not?? I am not a polly or a doomer, just someone looking for truth.....

This is clearly a Y2K problem.

Sure, it could be. Lots of smaller businesses waited until the last minute to upgrade. Might not be, too.

I tried to dial into work on my PC this morning.., didn't work.

Must be Y2K.

I got stuck in moring rush hour traffic for ten minutes!! (TEOLAWKI)

Must be Y2K.

I just got a paper cut from the printer paper.

Must be Y2K.

I saw someone walk past my office just now.

Must be Y2K.

I saw that person just walk past the other way now.

It's still Y2K stoopid!

I am going to leave early today... feeling faint...

Must be Y2K.

Well, the kicker is that I go in this store every couple of days and never has anything like this happened. Last week I spoke to the owners and they told me that they had stocked up on water and a few other items for y2k, guess they should have stocked up on some compliance huh?

I'd say this story is pretty much data-free right now.

There's lots of Y2k stuff that won't be reported, and lots of non-Y2k stuff that will be reported as Y2k-related. Don't get all excited about any one item, but look for patterns, look at the credibility of those doing the explaining, and look for glitches in the key industries. That means oil, transportation, banking, communication, stuff like that.

We are hitting the iceberg now; we have a long way to go. We won't know how serious the damage is until March, and we won't be able to estimate the recovery time until June. I hope we'll find the damage is minimal and the recovery short, but right now we just don't know.

The person at "what@ever.com" should get a life. Granted there are just an awful lot of false problems blamed on y2k floating around, but to simply try and insult someone providing a post on a bulletin board shows that the individual really has some emotional problems going on. Maybe that guy was picked on too much as a child or something.

Teresa-- I like to read about ALL the glitches. Gives an idea of the way things are going. Don't let the negative comments bother you. I think there are a lot of people who are just as interested as I am. How else would we know anything at all is going wrong? Pam

Me too. Keep the reports coming.

Thanks to you all for your kindness. This is the very first failure I have ever posted on any board reguarding y2k and just felt I must let others know. Knowing the owners of the store firsthand and what they are dealing with is true, it kinda bothered me about the reply, but some people won't believe anything.

To the negative reply....(whatever.com) I would never post anything (especially a potential y2k failure), without KNOWING it was true.

Forgot to add that I am going back to the store tonight or in the morning early and will report back if they are still on manual or if they got it fixed.
