The biting, stinging pollies are gone!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Unfortunately, when they went off-shift, they seem to have been replaced by a crew of snarling, spitting pollies.

Strange.

Answers

Good one, Ron. They're such stupid worthless morons.

what is frustrating other than the level of venom--is that it makes it impossible to determine if there are trends in the types of occurrances being reported because there is so much trash and sniping that can ruin a good thread. i wish they would just find something else to do now that everything is Y2K-OK!!

-- tt (cuddluppy@aol.com), January 06, 2000.

Is it your impression that this forum is composed of nothing but pollys and doomers? I ask because it seems increasingly unpopular (even with the most extreme cavemen and rapturists gone) to still be in the "undecided" camp. You know, asking for verification and context and all that boring rational stuff. ;p

-- Servant (public_service@yahoo.com), January 06, 2000.

Hey Servant! We aren't forgetting about you. Homer Beanfang and others post enough relevant news to suit anybody, why should you feel slighted?

-- Guy Daley (guydaley@bwn.net), January 06, 2000.

Servant,

No. I think the forum is now composed of:

1. People who believe Y2K is a non-event
2. People who believe Y2K will be more than a BITR
3. People who don't know how Y2k will turn out and are still watching
4. People who are biting, stinging, snarling, spitting trolls

I think " regroup " may be in order....

-- kevin (innxxs@yahoo.com), January 06, 2000.

I didn't really do anything to prepare for Y2K, and the glitch reports I've read on this and other forums strike me as mostly trivial. Inconvenient, yes, (and sometimes pretty funny) but not exactly life-threatening. And as long as the lights stay on, my ATM card is okay, Meijers is stocked and my Playstation works, I don't feel any great need to worry about them. Nor do I feel any need to antagonize the people who chose to take certain steps before the rollover. They did it for their families, themselves and their friends, and I can hardly fault them for that.

My point is this: even though you'd probably classify me as one of the "pollies," that doesn't automatically mean I'm here to insult people or spew any form of venom. Nor does it mean that I am a "stupid worthless moron" as someone else here so charmingly put it. It simply means that I have a different point of view.

Although I can understand your frustration with those who have chosen to act childishly, stooping to their level and making nasty generalizations only makes YOU look bad.

Their "job", Ron, is to overwhelm, divide, distract, confuse, dispirit and distract one of the few remaining open channels of information [and supposition :)] on Y2K failures occurring 'after the event.'

The Y2K command centres have all been publicly scaled down or closed. 'Victory' has been declared. Nothing must now be permitted to disturb the herd.

Few of the Pollies have any serious interest in this - those that do were already persuaded of their own 'rightness' a year or more ago. The rest are either 'on the job' for who knows who or a study in sick, obsessive psychological aberrations and vindictiveness.

Flame away, Pollies - I now never bother reading answers after I've posted :)!

To follow up on what you've aptly posted, Ron, here is a quote from Harbor Guy yesterday that also expresses it well: "Ron: There are four kinds of opponents on any popular, focused Net forum: 1. Obsessed persons; 2. Genuine trolls; 3. Persons hired by PR firms such as Hill & Knowlton et al.; 4. Persons who are "cybervolunteers" for political and activist organizations. Most of what I have seen on TBY2000 over the past days fit into categories 2 and 3 and 4. "

-- Elaine Seavey (Gods1sheep@aol.com), January 06, 2000.

Combined reply to John & Elaine -- what struck me as notable was the sudden and uniform change in tactics. Literally an "overnight change", as if they had just emerged from a meeting with the new rules in hand, hot off the photocopier.

Ron.......do you actually realize that you suffer from paranoia or is it all a mystery to you?

-- Craig (craig@ccinet.ab.ca), January 06, 2000.

And I thought my studies would be finished shortly after 1/1; boy was I wrong!

ps to Craig- Remember that Ron is a vendor. If he can keep the Uncertainty and Doubt going, he might be able to generate Fear as well, which for him generates CASH as it translates to SALES.

Ron,

I hope you're not still bugged about my request for a content indicator. I was trying to be humourous and jocular at the time, but it may have come out a little "biting". Really, I didn't mean to ruin your day. Kiss and make-up? Peace and love?

-- Still Clueless (butnot@biting.stinging), January 06, 2000.

Dear Slimeballs,

*chuckle*

Thanks for proving my point.

I say there's a bunch of twinks that'll snap at anything that moves, and what do they do? They snap at me when I say it!

Uncanny in their predictability!

By the way, what am I selling?

I thought I was a *writer*, not a *vendor*.

Unless you define "vendor" as "someone who sells his word to a publisher", I'm afraid you're attempt at slander has fallen flat on its face.

-- Ron Schwarz (rs@clubvb.com.delete.this), January 06, 2000.

Ron,

You are exactly right. The converts are as polly as the ones that just left. But, we knew there would be fence-riders anyway that could claim either way they are right.

-- Rob (maxovrdrv51@hotmail.com), January 06, 2000.

I'm not a writer?

Gosh! I hope my publisher never finds out!

As to being a vendor? Like I said -- I found some grain mills at a decent price, so sue me.
