Y2K and the crime rate:

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I wonder, just wonder if the crime rate will drop very significantly because of the Y2K problem. How could this have any effect on the crime rate you ask? How many more millions of Americans now own fire arms that did not own them before? I do not have them before me some of you can supply statistics about owning firarms and the crime rate. But I know that the population that is armed has much less crime. Y2K served a great purpose if for no other reason than to arm America's citizens as they should be. I know that I purchased an extra weapon, and will not hesitate to use it against any vermon crawling or walking that comes thru my door way. Will the cowardly thief attempt a robbery at a home he suspects is armed? Ever hear a weapon being cocked and loaded in a dark room and you are the target?

Got a sign in the rear window of the house...only easy way in.

"When shot, while coming through window, please fall dorward into house."

"I know that the population that is armed has much less crime"

Got any figures to back that up? Hasn't crime in New York been dropping along with legal gun ownership? Could there (gasp) be other factors in at work in controlling crime?

Feel free to cap a pop in my ass or something if this is too subtle a question for you.

Servant, you have only appeared here lately, and seem to be only bent upon discrediting anything others say who are not employed by your employers. If you had been here longer, you would have read many substantive posts giving just those statistics. I suggest that before you make any further attacks, you read the archives, where these categories are clearly listed. You would save us all time.
