Synchronicity: Perhaps another true meaning associated with the phrase, "Roll Call!"

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I am laughing tonight, as I finally realized the absolute irony associated with my tiny efforts so far, to "round up" all of the "TB2000" veteran forum regulars (i.e., anyone who began posting to Ed Yourdon's forum AT LEAST by November, 1999 and maybe even BEFORE that) and direct them to this brand new site.

As God might have it, (or maybe even dIEter who has made his influence known these many months) I posted a thread to this new forum, entitled "Roll Call."

Roll Call? As in, associated with Toilet Paper? Oh, no! Did I subliminally mean a literal "Roll Call?"

LOL!

Regardless, folks are showin' up! Come on over!

Perhaps someone may be able to help me look up the precise definition for the word, "synchronicity." What a cryptic and wonderful word. I'm still working on the categories for the new forum. Suggestions are ALWAYS welcome.

And as you all know, my email is, and has always been "real."

It's probably a new type of roll playing game.

So is this new forum taking the place of TB2000? Or?

Just trying to keep up with the changes. Thanks.

Oh, as the forum moderator/sysop there, you get to view IP addresses, too, right? Hmm.

Maybe another theme for this alternate forum might attract more interest. "Gallows Humor" gets real boring real fast.

Chuck,

"Hoo boy" maybe called for. I'm glad to hear you 'haven't looked' lately. But then you're not writing a book.

I guess I should have clarified about the IP address comment. If I were writing a Y2K book, I'd love to set up a forum where I could "round up" IP numbers of the "veteran forum regulars" (specifically those "who began posting to Ed Yourdon's froum AT LEAST by November, 1999.") I'd think that could really help me out.

But gee, the invitations to come over just sound so Charmin'!

SYNCHRONICITY

Jung's word. An acausal connecting principle. Meaningful, psychic coincidence. Roberts says it is the connection between the psychic and the mundane (inner and outer).

Ancient patterns of reality such as astrology or the I Ching depended originally upon socially agreed-upon qualities that linked things. Many of those qualities have now been lost or forgotten, so that only the links remain. Such links, in turn, may extend no further than the names of the objects involved. Our modern systems, though governed by science and reason, are no less the products of social consensus. They no more necessarily reflect the true nature of the universe than the old systems did.

Dictionaries....don'tcha love 'em?
